After years reigning in the photography market, Kodak has had to reinvent itself and adapt to new times. Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit is a security kit from the photography giant, which offers us an advanced surveillance camera along with various accessories to improve the experience of use. Will it pass the tests in our laboratory? Do not miss our review.
We thank Kodak for the loan of this camera to carry out its analysis.
Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit is presented in a medium-sized cardboard box, on the front we see an image of the camera along with some of its most important features, while on the back some of its functions and features appear in more detail.
Once we open the box we find everything properly protected in a piece of hard cardboard. The camera is accompanied by various accessories such as a wall mount, the power supply, a detachable WiFi antenna, an Ethernet network cable, a quick start guide, a remote control and a door sensor. All wrapped in plastic bags for better protection.
We already focus on the camera and see a unit with a robust design while compact. The manufacturer has opted for a structure based on a high-quality glossy white plastic chassis. This Kodak IP101WG camera features an articulated design with a motor for turning and raising / lowering. Thanks to this, we can focus the camera where we are interested, all in a very simple way from the remote control or the smartphone application. The camera has the capacity to move 85º horizontally and 45º vertically.
First, we focus our view on the front where the CMOS sensor is located, capable of recording video at 1080p resolution and a maximum framerate of 30 fps. Next to the CMOS sensor are numerous infrared LEDs to provide the camera with night vision, in this way we can always use it, even if we are in complete darkness. Video encoding is done in H.264 so it takes up little space.
The sides have a very clean design in which we only see the recording resolution.
Kodak IP101WG presents a base where we will screw the support to keep it fixed on a wall. Fortunately Kodak provides us with the screws and accessories necessary for this.
We continue to see the details of the Kodak IP101WG and we reach the bottom rear, where we find the connection for the power supply and the detachable WiFi antenna that the manufacturer attaches to us, very useful to be able to use the camera without the need to connect it to our router with a cable. We also see the slot for a microSD memory card, the RJ45 connection, a reset button and a status indicator LED.
Camera settings with Kodak Security app
First, we see how to configure and use the camera through the Kodak Security application. To do this we first need to connect the power supply to the camera. The next step is to install the Kodak Security application.
Once installed, we open the application and it will ask us to configure the camera, we select the option "WiFi camera" to find our camera, it will only take a few seconds. Once the camera is detected, it will ask us to configure the security parameters and we will have to wait 90 seconds for it to reconnect, after which the camera will be ready to use.
Once the application has reconnected with the Kodak IP101WG, we just have to press play to start playing the image. To move the camera, just hold your finger on the image and drag sideways or vertically, just like in a 360º YouTube video.
We can also control the camera with the small command that Kodak attaches to us, it will be very useful to make the camera start recording on the microSD card that we have put, since it does not include internal memory.

Door sensor
At the bottom of the application we have access to all the configuration menus, the application offers us a multitude of possibilities, including the possibility of configuring the door sensor and predefined coordinates, we leave you with a complete gallery where you can see all the options to The perfection.
Final words and conclusion about Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit
Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit offers us a surveillance camera with an excellent design that demonstrates the great quality that the brand always offers. It is an indoor unit, since it does not have any type of protection against water. Your night vision will be very useful so that you do not miss any detail. The camera works wirelessly via WiFi connection, in addition to having a tremendously simple installation. Kodak has put a lot of effort to make everything as simple as possible, we will not have to connect the camera to the wired router even the first time we use it, something that not all models can boast
As for the image and video recording quality is quite good, although if the light conditions are not optimal, we will see how strange colors appear in the image, unless there is so little light as to make it have to enter night mode. The only downside we put is not being able to control it from the PC browser.
The Kodak IP101WG Starter Kit has a retail price of approximately 130 euros, it is a great option for users who do not want to spend a lot of money.
