From time to time we like to bring for everyone analyzes of different and unique products of their kind. The Kolink BIG CHUNGUS chassis we think fits that description well, since its appearance is simply unique, being a full-size tower compatible with E-ATX and full of tempered glass on all sides.

In addition to its enormous size, it stands out for its wide front with 4 A-RGB fans, its tilted position and the complete lighting system that it brings, which we can modify with its remote control. A quite entertaining and original montage awaits you, so we see everything about it.

Before proceeding, we thank Kolink for trusting us in giving us this product for analysis.

Kolink BIG CHUNGUS technical characteristics

Unboxing

As big as the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS tower is the box it is stored in, so as its name suggests it will be quite “sketchy” to transport it, . This box is constructed of neutral cardboard, with the screen printing entirely in black, showing a sketch of the chassis on the front and basic technical information next to it.

The opening is made from the top, as always, although in this case the first thing we will find is a second cardboard box that carries the base of the chassis inside. Just below and very well protected we have the rest of the chassis, with hollow cardboard panels on all sides, as well as light protection of polyethylene foam. Not bad, but perhaps more of this foam would help protect the crystals.

The bundle we found has the following elements:

  • Kolink BIG CHUNGUS chassis Metal box in separate box Installation screws Remote control for lighting Various clips

As accessories we have nothing more and nothing less than those seen in other chassis, which is logical since we are not facing such a different case. Only the base of the chassis has been removed to save space in the box, while all the windows are installed and protected with a plastic protector on both sides.

Very daring exterior design

As we usually say in this type of chassis, the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS you will love or hate, but it will never leave you indifferent. The German manufacturer has opted for a full-size tower in terms of motherboard capacity, albeit with a large backward tilt in its prismatic design. The package measures 668 mm high, 336 mm wide and 651 mm deep, weighing no less than 16 kg when empty .

Its construction is based on steel sheets and chassis, aluminum base, tempered glass for 4 faces and the rest of the details in plastic, being in this case a very little used material, and this is good. It has a very good rigidity when we remove the glasses, in a way the prismatic shape helps to create a higher quality chassis in this regard.

On the part of the legs, their installation will be as simple as aligning them with the four holes in the base of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS and installing the screws. These should be generally used for the power supply, as they are the largest. Perhaps 4 well distinguishable specific screws would have been a more suitable option for inexperienced users.

There is no doubt that this chassis is mainly aimed at users who will use liquid cooling systems. They may be AIO or customized systems with a water tank, since in its lower face we have a hole compatible with both types of element, as well as the rest of the holes.

Let us focus now on studying each of the faces of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, because all of them will be important and interesting. And starting with the left side face, we can see that the prism that makes up the chassis is really 6 faces, adding up all the ends always finished flat.

Absolutely this whole side is occupied by a tempered glass panel with a light smoked on it that gives it a slight mirror effect. At no time does it deprive us of showing all the charms of our internal hardware. A hardware that must be up to the task, since otherwise there would be no point in making this purchase.

The fixing of the glass is done using 4 typical manual thread screws and with a rather protruding head. It is not the most refined finish, and we believe that for the cost of the chassis a pressure coupling system would not have been a bad idea, although of course, it would be more insecure. If they have designed it that way it will be because they have good reasons to do it. This glass has a separation of approximately 5 mm from the chassis, which will allow air to enter or exit without any problem.

We now turn to the opposite side of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, which is essentially the same as the previous one, although with a reverse design. This causes that both faces are not reversible, nor is it necessary. The glass is also smoked and with exactly the same way of installation.

We take this opportunity to point out that a rubber protection has been placed on each side of each glass fixing hole that avoids making direct pressure of the screws on the glass. This also serves to eliminate possible vibrations with the operation of the fans and other hardware.

We moved to the front of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, where we also found glass, one that is very long and has enormous personality. This one is not smoky at all, clearly showing the 4 pre-installed Kolink 120mm A-RGB fans. And there is still plenty of room above and below!

In principle we would be free to remove these fans to fit a 480mm radiator with a hypothetical custom liquid cooling system. In this case the glass is approximately 1 cm separated from the metal chassis, and we do not have any type of dust filter, here or anywhere. This is great for aesthetics, but also for dirt.

Of course, fans are not the only way to get air, seeing that its two sides are fully open. This in part will cause the air pressure to the hardware to be less, as everything is so open, although it certainly ensures incredible heat dissipation.

We do not forget the lower part of this front, where the I / O panel has been placed, which in this case has these ports:

  • USB 3.2 gen1 Type-C port USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-AUSB 2.02x 2.5mm jack for audio input and output Power button with integrated LED

Let's keep in mind that USB-C is not a gen2, and as such it will be integrated in the same connector as normal USB with the typical blue header. What we would have liked in this case is to have two USB Type-A gen1 and this USB-C gen2. It is not a cheap chassis and you have to demand a little more than the rest.

Wait, because there is a fifth face on this chassis that is the one that is halfway between the rear and the front. Like the others, it has a glass protecting its access that can be installed in exactly the same way as the previous three and that does not have smoked either.

The interesting thing about this face is that it supports two 120mm fans ideal for extraction mode or one more radiator for our personalized system.

It is time to go to the rear of the chassis, which is in an inverted inclined position difficult to study, but perfectly accessible and very original. Undoubtedly, with the previous capture it looks like a very futuristic box with large diagonal openings in the sheet and completely exposed to the outside.

Well, what we see here is no different than a normal ATX, with a fan located in the upper right area next to the output of the I / O panel of the motherboard. It is exactly the same as the front ones, 120 mm and A-RGB.

Just below is a capacity for 7 expansion slots, which is the maximum available for E-ATX format boards. The long legs of the base compensate for the strong inclination of this face, so that it can never fall and does not hit walls. Like the front area, it also has openings on the sides.

In the highest part a small face provided with sheet metal has been placed and even here we do not see that it is "normal". For us, it will function as a grip to move and transport it, since we have seen that it does not jeopardize the integrity of the chassis or that of the windows.

In any case, for long transports, we recommend removing the windows, we will alleviate weights and avoid major problems in narrow corridors.

The truth is that, if we place ourselves at the bottom of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, it seems that we are in front of a sled. With these legs so aggressive, thin and linear that in their case they are made of aluminum.

Behind the front we see all the electronics behind the ports, as well as the corresponding cables for connection to the motherboard. But something very interesting that we have in the interior area are two A-RGB LED strips attached to give us lighting also at the base of the chassis. They are simply glued, so we can even move them to another location that we like more.

Looking at the details, part of the lighting will be covered with the PSU, since this area is also in charge of housing said element. The supports of the chassis should be somewhat wider, we believe, since it is quite heavy and a longer rubber strip would provide less support to the set.

Interior and assembly

We are already inside the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS chassis, although rather we were already inside, because from the outside we can see absolutely everything.

The design team has done an excellent job in general and their reason is to use very thick metal sheets on all edges and also very well finished so that they are a visible part without damaging the whole.

We have a huge interior space that supports the motherboard in ITX, Micro ATX, ATX and E-ATX formats, that is, the full range of the general consumer market. The support plate has reduced the use of sheet metal considerably, since its huge gap allows working without too much trouble in the CPU socket.

This on the other hand makes the cables more exposed on the opposite side, perhaps for this reason the degree of smoke for both faces. In this section it will be the user who has to do their best work to leave everything with the best possible aesthetics. And it is that there is no compartment for cables as such, each one will throw them where they deem appropriate according to their length and quantity, always from the rear.

The large chassis width makes it easy to support large CPU coolers up to 175mm tall, and large graphics cards as thick as up to 335mm long, though it really fits more. Only a vertical installation system for the graphics card has been missing, which in a chassis of this caliber should undoubtedly exist.

Finally, the space available for the power supply is 220 mm. Although there is room for much more, so much so that just above this we have the 360 mm radiator well.

Basic, but smart storage capacity

Between all the glass and sheet metal, it's not easy to find the storage holes, but there are friends, although they certainly aren't going to be a big deal in terms of capacity.

The Kolink BIG CHUNGUS supports a total of 4 SATA drives, 2 +2 2.5 "and 2 3.5". For all of them, we only have one area, the one behind the plate of the motherboard, and it is a very intelligent and compact system.

It is the one you see in the previous screenshot, that through the holes you can already get an idea of how they will be distributed. The two 3.5 ”HDD units will go behind the plate, both together and perfectly accessible. Here it is also allowed to place two 2.5 ”SSD units stretched and longitudinal.

Two other 2.5 ”SSDs or HDDs will be placed in the front grip extensions, without affecting the previous ones. What is good about this? Well, absolutely all SATA power and data cables are going to come out of the same place. The bad thing is that we will have to juggle the strips of cables of various connectors when everything is so stuck together.

Wide, very wide cooling capacity

We now continue with the cooling capacity, which although it may seem that the shapes may harm the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, it is not. Although forget about 140mm fans.

Let's start by citing the space available for fans:

  • Front: 4x 120mm Top Cover: 2x 120mm Bottom: 3x 120mm Back: 1x 120mm

Of which we have 5 fans already pre-installed, all 120mm and 25mm thick with A-RGB lighting. All these fans are already connected to the microcontroller, using 6-pin headers, 4 for lighting and two for power, we imagine. The speed cannot be customized from them, but the lighting, obviously.

It is not a noisy chassis for the number of fans it has, which have anti-vibration rubbers in their corners and a speed regime of about 1200-1500 rpm. More than enough to provide good air flow, which will not be a problem because it is a chassis that is very open to the outside on all sides.

10 fans as total capacity, but in no case 140 mm configurations, we must take it into account when buying extra units. As for the configuration we would make, it would be a normal one, with horizontal flow of front inlet and rear-top outlet, or vertical.

And the cooling capacity is as follows:

  • Front: 120/240 / 360mm Top Cover: 120 / 240mm Bottom: 120/240 / 360mm Back: 120mm

Up to 4 radiators, two of large sizes ideal for custom systems with two and up to 3 stages. In the front the 4 120mm fans fit with solvency, and there is still room for more, so we can almost guarantee that a 420mm radiator would fit without problems.

What we will not be able to do in any case is a push and pull configuration because there is no space between the glass and the chassis. We don't have dust filters anywhere either, so over time it will be cleaning because it will inevitably be a magnet chassis for dirt.

We do have plenty of capacity for very thick radiators, those of high performance that are supplied in RL systems such as the Corsair Hydro X. The Kolink BIG CHUNGUS is ideal precisely for custom systems.

Keep in mind that the pump tanks always have 120 mm adapters to put them in fan holes, and here at least two at the bottom we can fit if the GPU is not too big.

Lighting system with brutal aesthetics

The second main attraction of the chassis remains to be seen, that is, its addressing-capable RGB lighting. This means that it allows you to apply animation effects throughout the system, this time we will do it using a remote control.

The factory system consists of the 5 commented fans and two RGB LED strips located at the bottom, in the power supply compartment. The fans have their lighting in the central part of the rotation system, we believe that the outside diameter would have been more complete. The whole system will work in unison, including the strips, and although the light is not impressive when it comes to light output, it is at a good level.

All this is managed with a microcontroller installed in the cabling area of the chassis, which also supports up to 10 equal fans along with the two LED strips. The interaction system is of course infrared, and the remote already has the included battery, a detail.

The remote control is very similar to those included with general-purpose HUE systems. With 11 buttons for solid colors, an automatic mode and controls to go through animations. Likewise we can turn the system on and off, modify the brightness or switch between microcontroller or motherboard.

Because yes, we can also connect it to our motherboard using an A-RGB header compatible with the main manufacturers of motherboards such as Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte and MSI.

Easy installation and mounting with standard cables

We reach the final stretch, where we carry out the hardware installation of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS. Above all, we will focus on how to pull the cables to the different elements.

The hardware we have used is the following:

  • Asus Crosshair VIII HeroCPU AMD Ryzen 7 2700X motherboard Stock AMD Wraith Prism heatsink 16GB DDR RAM T-Force Dark Z-Alpha MSI Radeon RX 570 ArmorPSU Antec HGC Gold 750 graphics card

For this PSU we have used the cables that come from the factory, to ensure that all of them arrive without problems. In the case of the Antec, its cables are a bit annoying, since all of them have capacitors at the end and consequently they are very rigid and difficult to handle

We have started by placing the motherboard, since around it we have plenty of holes to put the cables that go to the power of the on-board CPU, ATX, and PCIe for graphics card. We have not had too many problems in passing the cables from the lower compartment to the rear area, although there is only one hole for all of them and with great volume it will come very fair.

The cables have arrived without problems, even the one from the CPU which is the furthest from all. About 5-10 cm will be left over from it. Likewise, the ATX and PCie have reached their respective gaps without problems, remaining as we see in the previous screenshot.

Finally touch connector all the cables that are included in the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, which will be the following:

  • USB 3.2 Gen1 connector for front ports Internal USB 2.0 front panel Front panel audio header F-Panel for starting MOLEX connector for microcontroller power A-RGB header (if we want to connect the lighting to the board)

There are quite a few, all of them also leaving from the base and that we will have to throw through the PSU cable hole or directly through the main area if there is no room. All of them will remain moderately hidden at the base of the chassis.

Final score

Here we have the final result of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS fully assembled and in operation. A process carried out without any setbacks due to the large amount of space there is to work with.

Final words and conclusion about the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS

We come to the end of this analysis where we have seen one of the most aggressive and different chassis of recent times. It stands out without a doubt for its premium design completely covered in tempered glass on a high-quality and rigid steel and aluminum chassis.

If you have or plan to have a personalized liquid cooling system with one or two tanks, it is one of the main options together with the Thermaltake TG family. Large space of up to 3 radiators of between 240 and 360 mm of practically any thickness. But it can also be left as it is since its 5 A-RGB fans and being a chassis practically open to the outside will provide it with exceptional cooling. The only problem will be dust, because there is not a single filter.

Lighting will be the second essential aspect, the fans, together with two LED strips located at the bottom that allow them to be moved, give it an impressive appearance. For this we have a microcontroller that supports up to 10 fans, with a remote control for control and compatibility with motherboards.

We also recommend our article on the best chassis of the moment

Hardware capacity is also very high-end, with oversized E-ATX, PSU, and GPU boards and heatsinks up to 175mm in height. Its peculiar inclined installation gives a very visual appearance, although the possibility of installing the vertical graphics card is missing. In a single plate we can install the 4 hard drives that it supports.

The assembly is carried out without any problem, although there are details to polish, such as more advanced cable routing or better storage of the same cables, since here it is time to manage to leave it as good as possible. We would have liked to be able to manage the fan RPM with the microcontroller, but it is not possible.

We finish with the price of the Kolink BIG CHUNGUS, which we can find for 249.90 euros, a rather high cost that makes it directly into a Premium cut chassis and accessible to not too many users. This chassis is to show off your liquid cooling, if not, it makes little sense.
