This time we present you the in-depth analysis of the new Krom Kaiser, the third gamepad that the company launches on the market with compatibility for PC, Play Station 3 and 4. It is the brand's most expensive controller, and is designed for competition, with analog triggers and USB connectivity without the need for software. It includes details such as the integrated speaker, 3.5 jack for headphones, along with its 12 buttons plus 4 customizable ones.

This Krom Kaiser enters fully into a mid-range market with quite a bit of competition, but with more than acceptable credentials and an interesting price. Let's see next what this gamepad will be capable of and our gaming experience with it.

First of all, thank Krom for the transfer of his product and the trust in us to carry out this analysis.

Krom Kaiser technical features

With a flexible cardboard box printed entirely by the brand's colors, black and orange, this is how this Krom Kaiser is presented. Nor could it lack a great color image of the game controller that Krom has designed with all its care so that it is capable of competing with its rivals and is liked by professional players who are looking for a simple team and do their job.

On the back of this small box, we see two other color photographs of the remote control along with information about the different controls it has, as well as its main characteristics, although most of them in perfect English.

Inside, this Krom Kaiser comes perfectly accommodated in a flexible plastic mold in the style of mouses and typical peripherals. Effective and easy to open and close storage. In addition to the gamepad, we can find the instruction manual for use, where we are perfectly explained how we can operate this controller and how to configure its rear levers. The cable for connection is fixed to the remote, so it will not be removable at any time.

In this Krom Kaiser we find a good quality control and a very ergonomic design aimed at being comfortable in practically all types of hands. Its distribution of controls is similar to the Xbox controls, with the buttons close enough so that we do not need to move our fingers too much from one place to another. It is entirely made of very good quality black plastic, and with a rough design in the grip area so that it does not escape us in the heat of battle.

As with the Xbox gamepad, the D-Pad Digital is interchanged with the left stick. As for the other buttons, their position is as expected, when with the names and drawings modified to suit the manufacturer compared to the typical indications of the consoles.

Its distribution is quite compact compared to some models on the market, and that is noticeable when we look at its measurements against the size of the grips. The Krom Kaiser is 154mm wide, end-to-end, 110mm high, and 60mm thick. In addition, they have a fairly light weight of only 262 grams, mainly because it does not have motors for vibration. A success for many and a disadvantage for many others, for tastes, colors, as always happens.

Another aspect to keep in mind with this controller is that the digital D-Pad is not independent buttons, something that should be known for many players who work better with separate buttons. With this system we will be able to press the directions faster, but in exchange we will have less control against very strong or low precision pulsations on our part.

It is possible that for noble players, a more visual silkscreen is missed on the main buttons, something like the console's own controls. In this case we have indications, but of black color and quite little visible. Of course for consummate players it would not be any problem since they know perfectly the situation of the controls.

We also have a touchpad on top, as most professional controls already have in this area. Its operation is very fast and quite precise, just like the buttons, which are membrane like traditional ones.

Another interesting function of this remote control is that it has a front speaker with which to listen slightly to the sound of video games, just like what happens with the Dualshock 4. We also have an interesting 3.5 mm Jack connector for connect wired headphones to the remote, and be able to listen to the sound in very good stereo quality. This port does not allow microphone input, only audio output.

In the central area we have the two typical buttons of "options" and "share" and the button homologous to that of PS4, all of them quite accessible and distributed as in previous PS controls.

Both the levers and the triggers of this Krom Kaiser are analog. We have the presence of the four classic L and R front buttons, with a good size for L1 and R2 and with a fairly large stroke for the R2 and L2 lower triggers.

On the part of the levers, they have a fluted edge for better grip and a slit in the central part for movement with the fingertips. They do not present any type of oscillation and their control is smooth and fast, as expected.

By the way, in the central area of the front we have an indicator LED that will light up when the remote is in operation. It will also help indicate when we are setting the lower levers using a flashing light.

One of the novelties of this Krom Kaiser is the incorporation of four configurable levers in its lower area. They are located on both sides of the central area, next to the grips and have a rounded design to perfectly adapt the fingers to them.

These levers will be customizable through the controls in the lower central area, which we will see later on in greater detail. With them we will be able to program the typical functions of the other 8 main buttons and in this way make them more accessible to our tastes as users. And also we can do this with up to two different configuration profiles, with the "Mode" button we can select one or the other.

Ergonomics and use

As for our experience in its use, this Krom Kaiser has left us with good feelings, although with some nuances that it is important to comment on.

We start with the weight, and we must say that it will be quite familiar to us since its 262 grams are very close to the 210 that the DualShock weighs. In this case we do not have motors for vibration or weight adjustment, so it is quite generic, so to speak.

The initial grip is very good, it is a controller of contained dimensions and with a physical distribution of buttons very similar to the controls of Play Station, with the exchange of lever and D-Pad typical of an Xbox. This provides us with large and long grips with a rough finish that is really appreciated, especially for long games where we can not let go of the command and sweat makes an appearance.

All the buttons are reached perfectly with the fingers, as well as the control levers, with a quite good touch and a very good operation. We have not noticed any variation in the steering axles or anything like that. From the D-Pad, we must know that it is a single block that oscillates depending on the direction to press, despite this, it is not at all hard nor does it require an extra effort to manage the directions. In our unit we have noticed that the right direction costs a little more to activate compared to the other directions, but we imagine that it will be somewhat punctual, otherwise resort to the guarantee. Of course it will be a matter of taste, but many will be used to these four addresses being separated into separate buttons.

As for the front triggers, their great amplitude for the upper ones and their wide travel for the lower ones , they are comfortable and with precise analog control, responding at all times to the position where we have them fixed with our fingers. Something that perhaps is superfluous is the full curve termination of the R1 and L1 buttons, since they can cause accidental presses.

What is more controversial is the presence of the lower levers, especially since they are four and are pressed with an amazing ease, due to their curved design. If this remote were mine, I would have no hesitation in deactivating their functions until I got used to their use, because it is quite difficult for me not to press them accidentally, and it is necessary to fix my middle fingers firmly to the center of the remote to maintain a safe distance between my other fingers and these levers. In any case, with the passing of the hours you get used to it and in the end they can become comfortable.

As for the use of the speaker and the 3.5 mm Jack connector, we must say that they are quite useful, especially the connector, of course. We can connect any headphone with this type of port and we will have a good stereo sound, without noise and of good quality. In the case of the loudspeaker, it will be heard quietly so that only we can hear it, it will be very useful to hear the voices of the characters when we do not have helmets at hand.

Connectivity and configuration

First of all, we must talk about compatibility with games. We have tested it on PS4 and we have not had compatibility problems, but on PC we have had major problems, not being detected by all games, for example, DOOM or Far Cry 5. In contrast, in others such as NBA 2K19 we have not had major problems.

The connectivity of this remote does not keep too many secrets, since we will have a wired interface via USB and not even the need to install any driver. We have a button in the lower area with indicators "s3" and "s4", if we want to connect it to the PC we are going to place the button in position "s3" and we are going to connect it, if it is not detected, we will press position "s4". Similarly if we are on a PS3 or PS4, we will place that button according to the model and we will connect it. Next, we must press the PS / Home button for approximately one lock (the one in the upper central area), the light will come on and the remote will be working.

For the configuration of the four rear levers we will have to carry out a somewhat longer procedure. With the "Mode" button we can select one of the two configuration profiles that will be stored in the remote. Next, we put the upper switch to the "program" mode and thus we will enter the configuration process.

Then we must press the central button "Set" for a few seconds, until the LED light flashes. At this moment we will press the button that we want to copy and then we will press the lever to which we want to copy the function. Any of the buttons can be mapped to them, and we will do the same procedure to remap each lever.

Final words and conclusion about Krom Kaiser

Undoubtedly the most remarkable thing about this Krom Kaiser is its design, which adapts to practically all hands, with a rough grip area to hold hands well and a typical Xbox controller configuration.

In this aspect, the only thing that we think is improvable is the lower levers, they are pressed very easily accidentally and it also provides functions that we already have available on other buttons on the remote, so that dispensing with them is not something that is over. What is quite useful is the 3.5 mm Jack connector for headphones, which works perfectly both on the console and the PC, and also its small speaker.

We recommend our guide on how to mount a PC

On compatibility, we have opposite feelings, on the one hand, we see that on consoles it works well, without setbacks and with all its buttons correctly. On the other hand, on PC, we have verified that Windows 10 detects it perfectly and also Steam, but when it comes to playing there are games that do not detect it correctly. That is why we recommend this command for consoles rather than for PC.

This Krom Kaiser can be obtained for a recommended price of 49.90 euros, which is an average price if we consider that it is a mid-range entry control with incomplete compatibility on PC. It is possible that the inclusion of a driver by the brand would be very advantageous for this command, but we do not have one.
