Krom comes with important innovations with its Krom Kayle headset. Very affordable headphones, but without sacrificing good aesthetic details such as the double bridge headband or RGB lighting. For less than 40 euros we will have virtual 7.1 sound through its software, 50 mm speakers and a USB connection compatible with PC and PS4. Not bad for a headset designed for gaming where comfort and good quality / price ratio prevail.
The first thing is to thank Krom Gaming for the trust in our team by transferring the product to us for analysis.
Krom Kayle technical features
Unboxing and design
Krom is a Spanish company specialized in creating good quality gaming peripherals at extremely reasonable prices, and aimed at an audience that does not want to pay astronomical figures to achieve a good gaming experience. The Krom Kayle is designed for this purpose, a headset that installs well-balanced 50 mm speakers and a very modern design inside.
The presentation is based on a rather thin flexible cardboard box that allows us to see a large photograph of the headset almost in real size and with RGB lighting activated. Gray and orange colors predominate along with the model and brand of these helmets. In addition, it makes it clear that they have virtual 7.1 sound.
In the back, you could not miss another CAD-type photo with the main characteristics of the model in various languages.
It didn't take more than 1 minute to open the box and remove the headphones from inside. Not without first taking out the cardboard mold that helps its interior placement with a compartment in the back area to keep safe the very long and thick USB key.
The cable is not removable, so inside we only find a small instruction manual for these gaming headphones.
In the extensive range of headphones that the brand already has on its back, this Krom Kayle joins its ranks, with a fairly affordable weight of only 385 grams, and is that its design in double bridge and circumaural pavilions makes it rise a little the weight compared to other models. Its dimensions are 190 x 230 x 110 mm.
The materials used consist of PVC plastic for the canopy of the pavilions, foam covered with artificial leather for the padding and headband area, and a black painted steel chassis for the main arch. So we can say that it is a great level of construction.
In addition to sound quality, a fundamental aspect that we must always study in a headset is the support. As it is a double bridge, we will have practically guaranteed immediate adaptation to any head. While the main steel headband provides rigidity and stability in the support, the inner headband gives just enough length to fit our head.
The downside is that it does not provide such a tight fit as a single bridge.
And in this specific case, we highlight the comfort of the inner bridge, despite having practically no foam inside, the steel cable fasteners make it very flexible and adaptable, not disturbing the head.
What we pay a little is in stability, the headset tightens rather little and with any abrupt movement, we will lose the right place. It is nothing new, since it is normal in this type of bridge. Of course, it is a very comfortable set and with which we can spend numerous hours playing or listening to music. The light weight helps a lot.
Another aspect that in some way helps to improve the support is that the pavilions cannot be rotated with respect to the headband, they are fixed on any of the axes of the space. This also makes versatility drop considerably.
Important area of Krom Kayle will be the listening halls. Clearly we are dealing with a circumaural design with a fairly considerable diameter of about 105 mm. We say diameter because the canopies are completely round, as well as their pads.
These ear pads feature an interior foam of an intermediate hardness, not too soft, which makes it easier for the ear not to touch the plastic of the speakers, but not too hard, to fit the head well. In any case, it is completely covered in synthetic leather.
In my opinion, it is missing that they are a little thicker and more forceful, without a doubt the ear fits perfectly, but with a little more thickness we would notice an extra isolation from the outside. They are not hot, at least at mild temperatures of about 18 degrees.
The microphone, as we have been able to observe, always makes an appearance, since it is installed on a flexible rod that we will not be able to pick up, although we will be able to orient it. In tight turns it always tends to return to its original shape. We also do not have the presence of a Pop filter for particularly delicate recordings.
Internal features and benefits
Well, we start by giving a good overview of the technical characteristics of these Krom Kayle. They are domes that are closed to the outside by their external part and in which 50 mm drives with a good membrane are installed, judging by the good sound quality and good sensitivity, reaching up to 108 dB ± 3 dB. The frequency response is between 20 Hz and 20, 000 Hz, this being the entire range audible to humans, and an impedance of 32 Ω.
They are headphones that also include virtual 7.1 surround sound that will be generated thanks to the support software of the headset and which is available on the official Krom page.
We have the microphone located in the left pavilion, as usual. We have an element with a mid-level impedance at 2.2 kΩ. The sensitivity is -48 ± 3 dB, and it will offer us a response frequency of between 50 Hz and 10, 000 Hz. The collection pattern will be omnidirectional, so we will have a collection range in a complete circumference around it.
In the left earpiece we are going to find all the controls of the headset, which are not many. To manage the volume we have a potentiometer in the shape of a small wheel with a good range and which adjusts the sensitivity very well and with nothing strange.
To control the microphone, the device implements a mute button. If we press it once, we can activate or deactivate the microphone, we will also notice it because a red light at its end will turn on or off. But this button also serves to control lighting, if we hold it down for a second, we will be changing color, with several of them available. likewise we will have an RGB mode and another mode with fully paid lighting.
Finally, this Krom Kayle features wired connectivity of USB 2.0 type without the possibility of analog connection. So it is not lost on anyone that the DAC will be inside the headset. A highlight is the length of the cable, 210 cm with a mesh on its entire surface. And also to highlight is the connection of the cable to the headset, which is not exactly the most aesthetic, being enormous, but at least very safe and durable over time.
Management software
Krom Kayle has backup software as usual and is also necessary in headphones via USB connection.
We have to consider that it is quite basic and only allows strictly essential controls for the headset. We have an equalizer that customizes in 5 frequency ranges, from treble to bass, and also with the possibility of creating 4 different profiles. If we prefer, we can go to the effects section to have four of them predefined, although none is absolutely for nothing, because they are too exaggerated.
In another section we have the possibility to configure the microphone gain, although we do not activate and deactivate it, we will have to do this from the physical button. And finally we have the virtual sound 7.1 section, in which we can even configure the situation of the 3D virtual speakers to adapt them to our tastes.
The simulation 7.1 is quite successful, although not at the level of the best, we note that, when activating this mode, the general audio level drops a little. For our part, we consider that for gaming it is better to keep the traditional stereo, although you can always try and see if it fits your needs. It is one more option and it is not at all redundant.
Sound experience and conclusion about Krom Kayle
When we do an analysis of a headset, the least we can do is squeeze it to the maximum, in hours of use and different materials, own such as music at 320 kbps, original movies please, and in games of different types. From the first minute you can see the presence of 50mm drives with a good sound level and not a bad microphone.
These speakers support a sensitivity of 108 dB that will be more than enough, among other things because a higher level is harmful. The balance between treble, mids and bass is well done at the factory, although the bass stands out a bit above the rest. Using the equalizer we can customize this range to our liking, like 7.1 surround sound, well done we must say.
We have also tested the microphone to see how it records, and it is not bad. It captures sound very well, both bass and treble, with the limitations of its response frequency, and also very clean, even when we speak very softly. Less advantageous is its exterior design, with a rod always present and we do not know how it will end after a long time of use and movements.
We recommend our guide to the best gaming headphones on the market
The insulation of the exterior is not entirely optimal, and perhaps more forceful pads would have improved this aspect . The sound is heard clearly even at the top, although with a very slight bottleneck in the bass. Nothing serious to deprive us of a good experience.
Regarding the general design, it is very striking, especially for its good and powerful lighting that also supports some extra configurations. The double bridge design is highly sought after, and we consider acceptable support and great comfort. A little more pressure would not be bad, so that in the face of sudden actions they moved less, but the little weight they have, partially compensates this detail.
The Krom Kayle we can find them soon on the market for a price of approximately 34.90 euros, being really adjusted for what it offers us and being a great option for the entry range.
