Users have until December 31, 2017 to receive a free upgrade to Windows 10 from their current version of Windows to the latest Windows 10. This could be news to some who are still waiting for the upgrade of their Windows 7 or 8.1 systems, as this promotion was supposed to end in July. Microsoft has been quietly expanding it in an effort to increase Windows 10's disappointing starting market share.

Upgrading to Windows 10 will no longer be free soon

Although Microsoft did not describe the reason in that way, they actually claim that it is for users who require special accessibility features, since Redmond claim that Windows 10 offers everything they need, whereas previous versions of Windows do not. However, the free update doesn't exactly check if accessibility features are used technically, anyone with an existing Windows operating system can benefit.

Users who have a Windows 7 or 8.1 operating system can upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge without problems. Some exceptions apply, such as those for the Enterprise or RT versions of the Windows operating system. The upgrade is also hardware dependent. Windows 10 requires at least 2 GB of RAM for the 64-bit version and 1 GB of RAM for the 32-bit version. In addition, at least one processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz is required. Some requirements that every computer with less than 10 years should be able to meet without problems.

Windows 10 is the latest version of the Microsoft operating system and is constantly being updated to become the best version of all and offer the best to users of the platform. Its last major update has been the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Updating the operating system to the latest version is very important for performance and compatibility reasons, but above all for security reasons since previous versions may be more compromised.
