The amd zen 2 a 7 nm architecture will be presented this year 2018
Table of contents:
AMD has just released its second-generation Ryzen processors, which are still a small evolution of the originals, with a 12nm FinFET manufacturing process and some improvements to the memory subsystem. Those of Sunnyvale do not stop working, and they intend to present the Zen 2 architecture at 7 nm this same year 2018.
AMD Zen 2 7nm architecture to be announced later this year
Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, has confirmed that the company already has the first samples of its new Zen 2 processors at 7 nm, these new chips are based on the Zen 2 architecture, and are expected to be presented this year 2018, with a widespread launch for early 2019. AMD also already has Vega graphics cores manufactured at 7nm, so the company is very serious, and wants to make things as difficult as possible for its rivals.

The manufacturing process at 7 nm still needs to mature, which is why it is not yet possible to mass-produce the new chips, since the number of functional units per wafer would be too low, which would imply too high a manufacturing cost. The attitude of AMD these last two years is being very different from that of the past, where roadmaps were presented that later were not completed, giving a bad image of the company, all this has changed since the arrival of the first Ryzen processors.
Intel is having big problems with its manufacturing process at 10nm, so we could see AMD take the lead in this regard after many years. We will still have to wait a bit to know all the benefits of the new Zen 2 architecture.
