Ever since a good chunk of AMD staff in the GPU segment turned to Intel, we've been hearing the name Arctic Sound as a codename a lot. That code name seems to have changed to Intel Xe.

Intel today spread the news that the GPU architecture that was known as Arctic Sound will now be called Intel Xe (or Xe). Intel hints that there would be two variants of the Xe architecture: one optimized for customers (and therefore we can assume for gaming) and the second optimized for data centers.
Unfortunately, that's it, nothing more has been shared about Intel's new GPU architecture. However, Intel's media deck has a few slides and indicates that the GPU was built at 10nm. And, unsurprisingly, GPUs will reach all channels, embedded products, enterprise, data center, and consumer. For the data center and the consumer in general, they would be two separate microarchitectures. We can't wait to see what will happen in 2020 and wonder if Intel will be able to compete with AMD and NVIDIA.
In this way, Intel Xe is technically 'Gen12' and will not arrive until 2020 after the launch of the Gen11 GPU integrated in SnowCove. According to Intel, Xe GPUs will continue to use the same unique drivers from the company. This means that developers will be able to take advantage of the CPU, GPU, FPGA, and AI with the same API. This simplified approach should either attract developers to your platform, or make working with it easier.
