The 'multi technology

It seems unbelievable but recently Firefox, one of the most used browsers in the world, will take advantage of multi-threaded processors so common today.

Firefox 50 will take advantage of multi-threaded processors

The Electrolysis project, which sought to develop a browser compatible with multi-core technology, started in 2009 but remained in 'stand-by' for a long time, until development resumed about 3 years ago.

The first time it was implemented it was in Firefox 48 for a select group of users, it was extended in Firefox 49 and now with the latest version of Firefox 50, this functionality reaches most of the users.

How does multi-process technology benefit in Firefox?

From now on, each tab that is opened in the browser will work in a totally independent way from the rest of the processes. This means that if a tab fails or is checked, it will not affect any other tab or browser function, only that particular tab. Also, loading a web page will not affect the performance of other tabs. All this makes the browser fluent and we avoid that the annoying hangings of a tab force us to close the entire browser.

Another advantage comes in the field of security. Now the rendering process can be executed with lesser permissions in an isolation environment, so that malicious code cannot affect critical areas of the operating system.

At the moment, the multi-process technology of this browser is only available in the Windows version and later it will come to Linux and macOS.
