Nvidia 'quietly' adds cfr multi technology
Table of contents:
We recently told you about CFR (Multi-GPU Checkerboard Rendering) technology, where Nvidia seeks to improve the performance of multi-GPU configurations. We didn't know exactly when this technology would be available, however we found out that it is already hidden in the new GeForce drivers.
CFR technology can only be activated using Nvidia Inspector Profile
It was recently discovered that Nvidia had introduced a new rendering function for multi-GPU configurations with a recent version of its drivers. He did it in silence, because there is no reference to it in the ' changelogs '.
We will only be able to enable this function through the Nvidia Inspector Profile tool, changing the settings to be the same as the screenshot shown below.
This new rendering method for multi-GPU configurations replaces the old Split-Frame-Rendering (SFR) mode. The new CFR mode works for all current DirectX APIs, from DX10 onwards.
With the new function activated in the GeForce controllers, some performance tests were possible, although it does not work for all games, such as Monster Hunter World or GRID crashean with this mode activated or games such as Quantum Break and The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition do not receive any performance benefits.
However, if it works in games like Crysis 3, Chernobylite and A Plague Tale, where you can see some performance improvements, even better than with the AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) method.

Nvidia has not commented on the CFR method on its new drivers, which means it is still in the development stages and not ready to add it as another option from the Nvidia control panel. The method may improve further over time and in silence. We will keep you informed.
