We have long been aware of the EU's war on piracy. So they commissioned Dutch consultancy Ecorys to carry out an investigation into the effect that piracy has on the sale of copyrighted content. Research that cost 360, 000 euros. The problem is that the European Commission did not expect such a result.

The EU developed and hid a report saying that piracy is not bad

The idea was to find objective data on the negative effects of piracy. This investigation was carried out between 2014 and May 2015. The 300 pages of this report by Ecorys surprised the conclusions obtained. No evidence had been found of the negative impact of piracy.

The EU concealed the report

The only exception that Ecorys found, that is, in which there was a negative impact (although it was not remarkable either) were the film premieres. In all other cases, there was no strong evidence of a negative impact of piracy. In addition, this report is accompanied by a statistical report. And in it it is commented that no effect is proven with a sufficient probability.

Apparently, it is not the first report that the EU receives that draws similar conclusions. But, the worst is not that. Rather, the EU deliberately decided not to make this report and these conclusions public. Although it is an investigation of 360, 000 euros financed with public funds.

So the European Commission and the EU are aware that piracy does not have the negative effects attributed to it. And they have opted to hide that information from citizens. What do you think of this decision?
