It's been two weeks since AMD launched its new AMD Radeon VII card, the brand's new addition is the first to implement the 7nm manufacturing process on its GPU. Today the new drivers for AMD Radeon VII have been released with which the brand wants to give a boost in compatibility and performance to its new creation, since the first real tests have placed this card somewhat below what Was expected. Have they managed to improve the situation?

Adrenalin Drivers 19.2.2 AMD Radeon VII

Without a doubt, the new Radeon VII is the brand's hope to once again place an AMD GPU among the top 10 most powerful cards on the market. An innovative 7nm manufacturing process GPU and powerful 16GB HBM2 memory with a bus width of no less than 4096 bits. All of this places it with pure processing results superior to even the most powerful Nvidia with bandwidths of 1 TB / s, which is impressive.

But power is not everything, the architecture and the communication bridge between our graphics card and the operating system is essential, and it is in the latter where AMD has to try to improve the performance of its new creation of 700 euros, and more worth for a price like that.

During the tests carried out with previous controllers, results of up to 14% of performance deficit were obtained compared to the RTX 2080, when on paper, they should be even. The new Adrenalin 19.2.2 controllers from AMD, come to plug these performance holes and try to improve their new creation. Next, we show you a table created by the guys from TechPowerUp where you have tested each title with the new drivers and at resolutions of 1080p, 2K and 4K. They have produced graphics that show performance improvements over previous controllers

The team indicates that by reassembling the card with a new layer of thermal paste, the performance of the card itself with the original drivers rose 0.2%. To this we must add the improved performance of the drivers by an average of 0.45%, generating a sum of just over 0.6%, which is certainly not much.

While it is true that in the table we see a significant improvement of up to 6% in titles such as Assassin`s Creed Odyssey or Battlefield 5, we see that the rest of the improvements are quite small, from 1% at most, and even less. Of course, these drivers are not too relevant improvements, in addition we must bear in mind that game companies also release new performance increase patches individually.

What we have come to say is that the company is clearly focusing on the latest titles and of great relevance to optimize your card instead of all, and it is logical, since the number of games that exist is enormous, and not it is feasible to focus on each of them. In any case, these improvements are not enough to match the RTX 2080 nor will they be in the short term, of course.

Very soon we will have our analysis of the AMD Radeon VII ready and we will see in more detail its performance. How do you expect the performance of the AMD Radeon to be in these months and new titles like Battlefield V and Metro Exodus?
