Although there is no official confirmation from NVIDIA about the launch of the next graphics cards GTX 2080 and GTX 2070, but little by little we are tying the dots. We know NVIDIA is not going to give up on GDDR memory, and the announcement of the mass production of the new GDDR6 memories within three months has fueled rumors about a possible launch of the new generation GTX 20 this summer.

NVIDIA GTX 2080 and GTX 2070 could be an 'updated Pascal'

The new information comes from SK Hynix, which claims that the GDDR6 will reach serial production in three months. This means that the graphics industry is actively waiting for the mass production of GDDR6. History has taught us that once memory is available, things tend to move very fast.

GDDR6 will be able to reach a bandwidth of up to 16 Gb / s. Although this is a number pulling high, something around 14Gb / s is expected. It will be available in 8GB and 16GB capacities, which is a reasonable capacity for any graphics card today (8GB, more than 16). This type of memory would help improve bandwidth and performance.

It is important to clarify that all the GPU names are still based on speculation, nothing was confirmed by NVIDIA. They could be called GTX 2080 and 2070 (plus their younger siblings) but NVIDIA could easily use other names for its series that differentiate it from GTX 10.

Ampere; A new architecture or updated Pascal?

This is one of the big questions. Considering it's not on any roadmap, we assume that NVIDIA's next graphics cards could be a Pascal update with GDDR6. Ampere as architecture never became part of NVIDIA's long-term roadmaps, so it would be normal to think this. Sure, we'll be clearing doubts as we get closer to summer and more information about the next generation of graphics cards from the green giant begins to come out.
