Two of the most important motherboard manufacturers, ASUS and Gigabyte, want to redouble their efforts in 2018 to increase the shipment of motherboards, which has been significantly decreased during this year 2017.

ASUS and Gigabyte motherboards do not achieve the same sales rate as in 2016

ASUS is expected to reduce shipping of motherboards by up to 15% this year compared to 2016. While other vendors like MSI, ASRock and Colorful will see no significant decline. Gigabyte, meanwhile, is expected to experience a sharp drop in its 2017 motherboard shipments, being the worst hit.

In 2016, Gigabyte motherboard shipments to China were around eight million units, but 2017 volumes are expected to decline to only around five million units due to weak demand from China, in addition to the fact that that many of Gigabyte's retail channel partners have decided to switch to Asustek and MSI due to the company reorganization.

With its performance also weakening in Europe and the United States, Gigabyte expects its total motherboard shipments to reach 12.6 million units in 2017, down from 16.2 million in 2016, with 6.6 million units delivered in the first half of 2017. and six million in the second semester.

Furthermore, ASUS has divided its product lines into three major business groups: Gaming BU, Mobile BU and PC BU, and has moved some employees to its newly established Talent Pool for other long-term plans. The company's integration of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) gaming products has also been activated and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The reorganization of ASUS and Gigabyte has begun to be able to accommodate their numbers due to the low demand that their motherboards are suffering from the cheapest competition, such as the aforementioned ASRock, MSI or Colorful.
