After MWC 2016 we started with our comparisons of the most interesting smartphones that have been seen these days. This time we start with the Xiaomi Mi5 and the LG G5, two smartphones that have a lot in common but are very different at the same time. Let's start our comparison of the LG G5 vs Xiaomi Mi5 .
LG G5 vs Xiaomi Mi5: design
Both Xiaomi and LG have opted for aluminum to manufacture their new top-of-the-range smartphones, it seems that the flagships made of plastic are definitely behind. Both smartphones are built with a unibody chassis for a high-quality finish and a much better hand feel.
Xiaomi takes the cat to the water with a lighter smartphone with a weight of just 129 grams compared to the 159 grams of the LG G5, it is incredible that the Chinese manufacturer has managed to build such a light terminal and without resorting to lighter materials such as the plastic. Regarding the dimensions, we come across measures of 144.6 x 69.2 x 7.3 mm by the Mi5 and 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7 mm by the LG G5, as we see Xiaomi also wins in terms of thinness.
If we look at the appearance of the terminals we see that the Xiaomi Mi5 has a slight curvature at the edges of the back, very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, which will allow us to hold it in a more comfortable way and greatly improves its appearance. The LG G5 also has a lot to say in terms of design, it is the first modular smartphone with a removable and interchangeable bottom to improve or modify the characteristics and benefits of the terminal, something that in turn allows you to remove the battery.
Screen with maximum resolution
Two smartphones with two screens to envy, both based on IPS technology and with panels of the highest quality to achieve sensational image quality. The LG G5 seems to be superior with a 5.3-inch diagonal and an impressive resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (554 ppi) while the Xiaomi Mi5 settles for 1080 x 1920 pixels (428 ppi) on a 5.15-inch diagonal.
The Xiaomi Mi5 may seem like the loser in this regard but at the same time it will have several important advantages. A lower resolution will mean less battery consumption and less penalty on the performance of your processor. The Chinese manufacturer has known how to play its cards to be able to offer a sensational image quality while taking care of autonomy and performance, because let's not forget that on a 5-inch screen the difference between the resolution of both terminals is almost negligible in terms Image quality but if it shows and quite a lot in the battery consumption.
Hardware and battery
The interior of the Xiaomi Mi5 and the LG G5 is governed by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the most advanced chip of the American firm and which is made up of four Kryo cores and the Adreno 530 GPU, a very powerful combination that represents the return from Qualcomm to the use of an own design of the CPU cores that has given such good results in the recent past.
The same processor but that in the Mi5 will have the advantage of a lower screen resolution so it can work more loosely and show slightly higher performance, we began to see that Xiaomi has been very smart in choosing the screen for your Mi5.
Along with the processor we find 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM in the case of the LG G5 and in the case of the Xiaomi Mi5 we will have options to choose between 3 GB or 4 GB of the same RAM. The internal storage is 32 GB in the LG and in the case of the Xiaomi we can also choose, this time between 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB.
We look at the battery and we can consider a tie at this point. The Xiaomi Mi5 has a slightly higher capacity with 3, 000 mAh compared to 2, 800 mAh for the LG G5. However, the LG terminal allows the battery to be removed for replacement, something that we cannot do with the Mi5.
Camera, software and connectivity
We focus on the LG G5 and see a dual rear camera setup consisting of a sensor with a resolution 16-megapixel camera and an f / 1.8 aperture to which another 8-megapixel sensor is added to allow the capture of much larger images than with just a rear camera. Both rear sensors are supported by a double LED flash along with a laser autofocus. On the front is an 8-megapixel sensor.
The optics of the Xiaomi Mi5 have been pampered in all its details so as not to disappoint even the most demanding users. The rear camera features a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with f / 2.0 aperture and DTI pixel isolation technology to improve photo quality in low light conditions by reducing noise and separating colors from different pixels with Greater precision. Its shutter is very fast to capture moving scenes with great clarity and sharpness. Finally, it has a 4-axis stabilizer to minimize movement in videos. The front camera has a 4MP sensor.
WE RECOMMEND Lenovo Moto M now on sale, features, availability and priceBoth are capable of recording video at 4K resolution and 30fps on their rear camera while the front camera can record at 1080p and 30fps resolution.
Android 6 Marshmallow is present in both cases although with great differences due to the customization layer of each manufacturer. The Xiaomi Mi5 has MIUI 7 while the LG G5 works under Optimus UI, both are of the highest quality and their excellent performance is assured.
In terms of connectivity, both have the most advanced technologies such as USB 3.0 Type-C, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPA, GLONASS, NFC and infrared. What we do not know for sure is whether the 4G LTE of the Xiaomi Mi5 is compatible with the 800 MHz band.
Availability and price
The LG G5 will be available in the Spanish market for a price that should be between 650 euros and 699 euros as befits a smartphone in its category. By cons Xiaomi Mi5 will only go on sale officially in China and India and we can already find it in the main Chinese online stores for a starting price of approximately 415 euros.
