Lg g6 review in Spanish (full analysis)

Several months ago LG put the batteries and decided to stand out from its previous models. He bet with this LG G6 with a more classic and less modular design. In turn, it also followed the trail left by Xiaomi in terms of screen size and thickness of the frames. At the time he had an advantage when leaving at the beginning of the years. But how good is it today compared to other terminals and after a while using it? Take a look at the analysis.

LG G6 Technical Features

Unboxing

The unboxing of the G6 is as bare on the outside as it is on the inside. The white box basically shows on behalf of the model. And inside we will find:

  • Charger ready for fast charging USB to microUSB type C cable SIM slot extractor

Design and ergonomics

The unibody design of this terminal is configured by its 18: 9 ratio screen. This gives us an elongated ratio, twice as high as it is wide. The measures 71.9mm x 148.9mm x 7.9mm enclose a 5.7-inch screen that encompasses almost the entire front of the device. Leaving only a 7mm top frame for the front camera, proximity / brightness sensor and earpiece, and an 8mm bottom frame for the LG logo. It does not incorporate notification LEDs.

At the rear is the dual camera with flash, the fingerprint sensor / button off and the model number printed in silver.

A very good point of the design in my opinion is the fact that both the front and rear faces are flat. It is something that may be obvious in the world of smartphones, but more than once cameras have been seen protruding from the back. They have their why, but they do not help a good design.

The LG G6 is built using Gorilla Glass 3 glass for the front. On the back they have used Gorilla Glass 4 for the cameras and Gorilla Glass 5 for the rest of the glass. It is rare that they have given more protection to one face than the other. Most people usually use protective covers that already protect the rear area. I think they should have increased the resistance on the front face.

The side frames have a metallic finish and form rounded corners that look great on the design. Something that does not convince me and I do not understand is because in some points of this metal frame there are some areas that are a different color from the rest. That detracts from uniformity and elegance.

In the upper side frame we still have luckily the 3.5mm MiniJack and the noise canceling microphone for calls. On the left side, the separate volume buttons at the top; and on the right, there is only the SIM and MicroSD slot. On the other hand, on the lower edge there are both the call microphone, the microUSB 3.1 type C port and the multimedia speaker.

Do not forget that thanks to its unibody design, it does not allow you to remove the battery. The LG G6 is IP68 certified with resistance to water and dust.

In general, the terminal feels comfortable in the hand and the glass is a material that always gives it a smooth finish and touch. The only negative aspect of the crystal is that very thing, the aspect. In the glossy black model, the footprints leave quite a few marks. Luckily in the Ice-Platinum model that is not so noticeable.

What's more, it's an easy-to-use phone with one hand and its 163 grams is never noticed at all. It is good that they have placed the fingerprint sensor under the cameras and not next to it as in the S8. This avoids dirtying the lenses when you turn on the phone.

screen

One of the greatest successes of this smartphone is undoubtedly the screen. For something they have called Fullvision the set of technologies available to the G6. LG continues to incorporate its IPS panels with 2K resolution. This time they are exactly 1, 440 x 2880 pixels due to the higher screen ratio. This 2: 1 ratio so fashionable this year, still lacks the support of numerous apps. At least when it comes to full screen. In apps that are not full screen and navigation buttons are present, the display ratio will be 16: 9.

As for the quality of the screen, it can be said without a doubt that it is very high. The colors appear well contrasted and the image definition is very good. For this, LG has had the help of Dolby. The LG G6 features HDR 10 and Dolby Vision technologies. The first is the standard used for televisions with HDR technology and the second is a technology exclusive to Dolby offering a greater light range and color depth.

All these technologies are noticed in the final performance when playing a video or movie. Dolby has taken care of it. Obviously without reaching the level of a television. It takes better advantage of the battery consumption thanks to adjusting the screen brightness according to the scene being played.

Outside of multimedia playback, the brightness also performs very well. Offering even clear visibility outdoors. The same goes for the angle level. It has no buts.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the playback of HDR and 4K videos is striking, but only on-demand videos. It remains to be seen how the move will turn out for LG with its screen in the future.

Sound

The speaker located on the bottom edge scratches a great level. Both for its sound power and for its fidelity of reproduction and bass. No weird noises or canned sound. Even family and friends were surprised by that aspect.

An interesting modification for those who have root access in the terminal is the possibility of activating the headset as a second speaker and thus receiving a stereo sound in multimedia activities.

Wide angle camera

LG bets again on the double rear camera. This time they both carry 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensors. The difference is that the first one is the only one with stabilization and they also have different lenses. The first has a maximum aperture of f / 1.8 and an angle of 71º. The second has a smaller aperture with f / 2.4 and an angle of 125º.

Both cameras perform quite well in well-lit environments. The quality is very similar to what could be achieved with the LG G5. Although the G6 tends to show more details in the photos taken.

Despite having both cameras, in the day to day more use of the second is usually made with its wide angle. We almost always want to cover more and leave the other for more specific moments. In general both cameras offer good contrast and vivid colors.

Main camera

Secondary chamber

It is in low light scenes that the main camera performs better, although the second does not do badly at all.

It is necessary to make a subsection regarding the native ratio of the camera, which in this model is 4: 3 instead of 16: 9. This means that we have to take the photo taking into account this frame.

As with the Doogee Mix, more dedication is lacking in terms of software that plays with the processing of the cameras to provide something useful. The only things we can find in the camera software are more collage-like modes.

The front camera for selfies has 5 megapixels and 100º angle has a fairly acceptable quality without reaching that of its rear sisters. The possibility of choosing between two different angles is appreciated depending on whether it is used for few or many people. Its worst performance is obviously in low light scenes.

As for Video, it is possible to record with the highest quality in 4K at 30fps. Or we can choose to record at 1080p with a very good 60fps (30fps if we use electronic stabilization). If we record at 1080p we can use focus tracking to keep the focus on someone or something. This focus is even capable of remembering whether to exit and enter the scene again.

Operating System and Software

Android 7.0 Nougat is the version found on this device. The interface is designed under the LG customization layer. The funny thing this time is that you can choose between several Launchers. By default, I came across one without an app drawer. Directly all applications were on the desktop loose or in folders. It is more similar to IOS.

The second launcher called Easy Home increases the size of the icons, adds the most common ones on the main desktop and gives us the possibility to configure quick contacts through a widget on the secondary desktop.

Finally and strangely enough, LG's usual interface, UI 4.0, must be downloaded if you want to use it. Its appearance is very similar to that of pure Android with an app drawer. The only difference is the icons with LG design.

We can also find other interesting options in the terminal:

Always on screen

As there are no notification LEDs, by default we can find this option activated. Which gives us different types of information such as the time, date and notifications received while the screen is off. It is something that has already been seen in other terminals. It is more normal to see it in terminals with AMOLED screen that consume less. Although neither is seen a significant expense in this.

If the phone is face down it is temporarily disabled and it is possible to configure various brightness and time settings.

Modifications touch buttons

In addition to the Back, Home and application list buttons; We can configure and add other buttons like the one to lower the notification bar, capture screen or a direct list to applications.

Application scaling

This option is very useful to decide what screen ratio each application will use separately. It is fine to be able to modify some in particular but tedious if you want to modify all the applications one by one. You can choose between 16: 9, 16.7: 9 and 18: 9

Shortcut keys

As simple as configuring the volume keys when pressed to open the application you want.

Smart settings

We can configure this option so that the device detects through location if we are at home and manages the sound profile, bluetooh or wifi; if we are away from home we modify these profiles; Or instead change the settings when connecting a headset or a bluetooth device.

Google Assistant

The LG G6 is closely linked to Google's voice assistant that, as is already known, allows us to carry out actions by voice. It comes to be something like Google Now but improved. The downside is that it only comes in English. So it will not be a widely used function in these parts.

Hardware

The LG has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. This last detail squeaks a lot in a high-end terminal. Almost any high-end terminal and many of the mid-range already include at least 64GB. Keep in mind that the OS itself already uses 10GB. A negative approach that tries to compensate with the possibility of expansion using microSD but that is not the same.

The chipset it mounts is a Snapdragon 821. At this point it cannot be said that 821 has much to do with its rivals. Already at the beginning of the year the terminal was below expectations in this regard. And today the new terminals are quite far from this one.

For those looking for more powerful chipsets and consuming less, this terminal will not be your option. On the other hand, if you are not so picky or you do not use it focused on gaming; It is not so noticeable in the normal use of one chipset against another.

On paper, LG wanted to make up for the scourge of not having such a powerful chipset with good dissipation. For this they used a special system with copper and a better heatsink. I say about the practice because I must admit that sometimes it has warmed up more than necessary. Nothing serious of course, but if it is something that seems curious and remarkable.

Connectivity

As for connectivity there is not much to highlight. The phone supports WIFI 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac and all LTE frequencies for 4G and 4G +. It also has the ever-present Bluetooth 4.2 technology and luckily, LG still includes FM radio. The SIM slot only allows a single nanoSIM.

Battery

The battery capacity is 3, 300mAh. The unibody design has allowed them to make better use of the components in space. At first it seemed like a good amount. But the screen resolution, the chipset and the IPS screen made me doubt its good performance. Above all, using Always On mode. We already know that while AMOLED screens turn off their black pixels to save consumption, IPS does not.

However, it must be recognized that the battery life has been more than good. Not only reaching the end of the day without problems, but it has also managed to reach just over 5 hours of screen on. I hadn't seen him in one of my terminals in a long time. Of course the energy optimization is well achieved.

On the other hand, the LG G6 also has the QuickCharge 3.0 system that manages to quickly charge and complete the battery in just over an hour.

Final words and conclusion LG G6

LG has shown that they can continue to get very good terminals. With very good successes in design, screen quality, camera and system and battery optimization.

Along the way, some aspects are left to be polished but they are blamed for being one of the first and best terminals of the year. As for example that chipset that is not up to expectations, a better use of the double camera or the insufficient 32GB of ROM.

We recommend reading the best smartphone with camera

A few months ago the price was a bit off, but LG could afford that luxury by being the first. Currently with the heavy weights in the market, he has not been able to continue with this policy and his price has been reduced to € 400.

A price more than in line and according to what the terminal offers. Without a doubt, it is a smartphone that gives everything that is asked of it and more. As long as the best of the market is not sought.
