Lisa Su of AMD has confirmed that the company's Navi series of graphics cards will launch in the third quarter of 2019 and with "many new features." Su noted that Navi would offer prices that are "below Radeon VII, " but did not give performance estimates.

Navi graphics cards would have prices below the Radeon VII

Given the price of the Radeon VII graphics card, AMD's initial Navi offerings will be mid-range for the graphics card market under $ 600. Right now we can only guess the performance levels of AMD's upcoming Navi offerings, but recent rumors have suggested that AMD will launch a Navi that may outperform the RX Vega 64.

When asked about Ray Tracing, Lisa Su declined to comment, stating that more upcoming graphics cards will be revealed later. Sony's next-generation PlayStation console will use AMD's Navi graphics architecture and Ray Tracing's capabilities were there, suggesting that AMD has graphics cards with this technology that have not been announced.

With Navi graphics cards below the Radeon VII price range, we could almost confirm that there will be no high-end Navi at least at launch. Focusing Navi's attention on lower price points gives AMD the opportunity to take advantage of a higher volume of consumers, especially if the new architecture can offer a better price-performance ratio than Nvidia's Geforce line.

Challenging the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti would not secure a large market share for AMD, simply because most PC gamers cannot afford a graphics card in that price range. We will keep you informed.
