Back in 2014 Logitech released the mouse that would mark a before and after in the gaming world: the G502. The passage of time has only reinforced the myth, so the Swiss brand has returned to the charge five years later with a revised wireless version, the Logitech G502 LightSpeed.
Logitech G502 LightSpeed Unboxing
The box in which the Logitech G502 LightSpeed is presented takes us in a first transparent methacrylate case with black stripes. This creates a sparkle effect that is reinforced by the pattern of the box itself, which also features black bands in its design and is accompanied by the phrase Play at LightSpeed .
When we proceed to open it, we are greeted by a matte black cardboard structure with a card next to the Logitech G502 LightSpeed.
When removing the card we can see the rest of the components contained in its structure.
The total content of the box is summarized in:
- Logitech G502 LightSpeed Charging and Connecting Cable Receiver Extension Adapter Miscellaneous Documentation Weight Kit RGB LED Strip Light RGB Controller Cable with USB Port RGB Control Knob
In the Logitech presentation envelope we find a card where we are told a bit about the origins of the Logitech G502 LightSpeed and inside we also have several brand stickers.
Logitech G502 LightSpeed Design
We go on to talk about the mythical mouse. With a weight of 114g and 132mm in length, we are dealing with a model of medium size and intermediate weight. Its design consists of an assembly with a large number of plastic parts whose finish varies between matte black and a brighter one. The Logitech Imagologist is observable in its upper area, as well as three luminous striations on the left side.
Switches and buttons
Just like the Logitech G502 LightSpeed consists of many parts, it also has a considerable number of buttons. Starting from its right side, we can see the two auxiliary switches G5 and G4, while vertically next to it we have another one with the icon of a sight. These three buttons have a rectangular design that tries to follow the ergonomics of the mouse itself, standing out from its structure, which makes them quite recognizable to the touch.
The presence of a small support flap for the thumb is also observable on the right side, but there is also a slight polygonal relief in this piece to emphasize its grip.
In the upper area, for its part, we have first of all the two main mouse buttons, both consisting of a single piece. The M1 or left button comes accompanied by two additional switches, the G8 and G7. Compared to the others, the scroll wheel supports lateral movement and has a dedicated switch to accelerate its movement reducing friction to zero. Just below it, we find the last switch on the deck, the G9.
All the buttons mentioned above are programmable to our liking and convenience using the Logitech G HUB software. The right side, for its part, is free of buttons since it is a mouse designed for right-handed users, but it has the same textured surface that is present on the left, although without a flap.
Turning to look at the base, we can see a total of five sliding surfers, as well as the screen-printed mouse model in Logitech's corporate blue. Also present here is the design in relief with gradient that we observed on the sides of the Logitech G502.
This is where we find the circular piece with the silkscreen of the Logitech logo that hides the compartment to store the Logitech G502 LightSpeed USB receiver when we make any type of movement. It should be noted that this cover is magnetized, so we should not worry about it loosening or losing its grip.
Finally, the on / off switch on the mouse has a double-colored background: red or blue depending on your activity.
The wire
The Logitech G502 LightSpeed charging cable is presented to us with a braided finish. It has a total length of 180cm, which gives us a lot of leeway and connectivity. Another positive aspect is the rubber reinforcements on the connectors.
The extras
Starting to talk about the other accessories, it is inevitable to start with the weights. Here we have a kit that is presented to us in a polygonal PVC box in which four 2g units fit and another two 4g weights. This is extremely positive for those more experienced players who have proven which is the weight format with which they handle best. Weights give the user additional freedom to truly own the Logitech G502.
These weights are placed on the inner section surrounding the sensor, and the base of which can be lifted by gently pulling on the eave of the left wing, which is magnetized.Regarding the decorative RGB LED strip, this shows a connector for the cable that accompanies it, which is the one that has the controller that allows us to manipulate its lighting using the remote control included in the pack. This lighting can be connected to our computer thanks to the USB type A connection of the auxiliary cable.
Putting the Logitech G502 LightSpeed into use
We've been using this mouse for several days, and our overall impressions have been predictable - a review of the legendary G502 couldn't be less than spectacular. Its reaction time and latency is non-existent, which is why we are dealing with a reliable wireless mouse model where they exist.
On the other hand, it is true that autonomy with lighting is somewhat reduced, although 48 hours of activity should last you for quite a few days unless you spend many hours a day on the computer. Given this possibility, it is good to keep in mind that we can continue using it while charging thanks to its cable, so the game will not be interrupted.
Pressing the buttons and rotating the scroll is consistent, generating a quite satisfactory click in our opinion. The two main buttons consist of a metal spring tension system, giving them a fairly quick press.
Ergonomics
In terms of ergonomics, we are faced with a mouse with a quite versatile format. It does not have a particularly pronounced hump, so the palmar grip is generally quite comfortable. This of course does not mean that the rest of the fastening modes are impaired, but that it can be somewhat neutral.
As claw users, it seems to us that it has a comfortable design, a factor that is reinforced by the presence of the left wing. The buttons are easily reachable and large, so the margin of error when pressing them is quite low. The form factor of the same also supposes an additional aid to the touch, making them easily recognizable when passing the fingertips.
Sensitivity, acceleration and DPI test
What can we tell you about the performance of the Logitech G502 LightSpeed. It has the HERO 16K sensor, so part of the presentations have already been made. The state-of-the-art optical sensor provides incredible precision and accuracy without smoothing, filtering, or acceleration throughout the 16, 000 DPI sensitivity range.
Our sensitivity test is carried out as always at a speed of 800DPI in two passes: one fast and one slow. It is possible to perceive how the stroke is altered with the movement of our wrist in the slowest when we try to move smoothly. In both we get quite fluid lines, a factor that is emphasized when gaining speed.
RGB lighting
We arrived at the festival, although for its part the Logitech G502 LightSpeed is not the most disco mouse that has fallen into our hands, If you are looking for discreet lighting, you have come to the right place. This mouse model presents two zones of light activity: the imager and three thin stripes on the left side.
These three stripes light up as we click the G8 and G7 switches for DPI management, though remember that we can customize these buttons for any other use.
As you can also imagine, the lighting of the mouse stops after a certain period of time without activity or if it detects that the computer has turned off by not receiving communication from the USB receiver.software
We arrived at the icing on the cake with the Logitech G HUB, the advanced software offered by the brand to give it our all with our peripherals. In the case of the G502 LightSpeed, the mouse receives us showing the percentage of available battery, and clicking on it takes us to its options panel.
For our mouse we find three main categories:
- LightSync - to calibrate both logo and main illumination. Here we can select from a catalog of effects, their speed and percentage of brightness. Assignments: allows us to customize functions and commands for each of the buttons on our Logitech G502, including macros and program execution. Sensitivity: It is the last category available, leaving in our hands the allocation of DPI switch and the establishment of four possible speed levels that we can also reduce to one.
Finally, by clicking on the gear located in the upper right corner of the program we can access the memory profiles in use (five in total) and other options such as low battery mode or estimated duration of the remaining battery.
Final words and conclusions about Logitech G502 LightSpeed
Altogether, the Logitech G502 LightSpeed brings us all the features that we usually ask of a competitive wireless mouse: we seek autonomy but the possibility of continuing to play while charging. Large DPI and a powerful sensor that guarantees it, the HERO 16K. A number of buttons that guarantee options when performing actions beyond relying on the keyboard. Correct ergonomics, a beautiful design and the possibility of placing weights to our liking.
The reinvention of the 2014 G502 is a success and we have been more than satisfied with its performance on the pitch. Something that has helped this good impression is of course the software, since Logitech doesn't stitch without thread when it comes to putting all the meat on the grill. The Logitech G HUB is a program with a pleasant and intuitive interface, even for the most inexperienced user.
We recommend reading: Best mice on the market.
A direct consequence of this customization is the presence of local memory in the Logitech G502 LightSpeed for a total of five profiles, allowing all the versatility you can ask for and some extra gift.
Regarding its autonomy: 48h with entrance lighting may not seem like much, but don't kid yourself. If we consider that these are distributed game sessions, it is when we can see the performance of this mouse. The HERO 16K sensor and LightSpeed technology try to get the most out of the battery without abusing its consumption. Also, if you choose to use your mouse without lighting, the number of hours of activity is extended to 60. Finally, charging the Logitech G502 LightSpeed via standard USB for 5 minutes provides about two and a half hours of use, so you can see how fast this bug recharges.
The Logitech G502 LightSpeed hits the market for around € 125.99. It is a great price for a great mouse, and it is that fame does not usually come without extra costs. Fortunately it is a mouse not only beautiful on the outside, but also on the inside. We find good quality in its components and we must bear in mind that we are dealing with a competition mouse at a professional level. All its components are designed to ensure that we give the best of ourselves. Is it worth it for that price? It depends exclusively on you. If you are passionate players and you like to compete, of course this mouse will not fail you.
