It is well known that Windows is an operating system much more prone to computer attacks and malicious code (viruses), mostly because of its popularity, but lately it seems that hackers are starting to redirect their attacks to Linux.

Malware turns your Linux machine into a Proxy server

All those owners of any Linux distribution must be on alert for a new malware called Linux.Proxy.10, which turns your computer into a proxy server.

The objective of this malware is not to link our equipment to a botnet , as usual, but to hide hacker attacks behind our IP addresses. This means that a hacker's cyber attacks are hidden behind our public Internet IP address. This could bring serious problems to infected users, since if the IP address of the cyber attack is tracked, it would lead the authorities directly to our home for something we did not do.

But what Linux.Proxy.10 does is just the tip of the iceberg, since the infection is preceded by other operations. Without going any further, the malware uses a Trojan to create an account-shaped backdoor whose name is "mother" and the password is "fucker". This allows through SSH to log in remotely to carry out the rest of the configurations to start the proxy server.

Linux.Proxy.10 is not a new malware but the cases of infection by this malware have intensified in recent months, affecting 10, 000 computers since December.

How to avoid it?

If you have the SSH interface activated you should try to protect it from unauthorized access, as well as a check of the list of system users, looking for irregularities.
