The new intel atom 'gemini lake' would arrive later this year

Intel not only thinks about its Intel Core processors for the most demanding market, it also thinks about renewing its Intel Atom SoC for low-power equipment, which currently belongs to the Apollo Lake generation that launched last year. Intel is currently working on Gemini Lake, which will seek to improve energy efficiency and add more power compared to Apollo Lake.

Gemini Lake will have major improvements

The upcoming Gemini Lake- based Intel Atom would maintain their 14nm manufacturing processing, but the TDP would be improved, which would be only 6W for mobile devices and 10W for desktop computers.

Intel has been able to double the amount of cache memory on Gemini Lake processors to 4MB. Thanks to the improvement in consumption, it is possible to improve the CPU clock speeds, all this combined will increase performance in general, although at the moment we do not know how much that performance jump will be compared to Apollo Lake.

Intel will also add a new single-channel DDR4 memory controller that will support higher frequencies. In addition, the maximum amount of memory that can be managed by the Intel Atom processor, which in Apollo Lake was 8GB, will now be 16 GB maximum.

They would arrive later this year according to the Intel roadmap

Unsurprisingly, the GPU embedded within the SoC will also receive its upgrade to the Intel Gen9 architecture, which will now feature 18 execution units and be fully compatible with HDMI 2.0 connections.

The new Intel Atom processors with the Gemini Lake architecture should arrive later this year and with it a host of new laptops.
