According to a report, Intel is rescheduling the launch of some of the Cannon Lake processor models for the end of 2018, which is bringing headaches for some of the laptop manufacturers that are betting on this CPU.

Some manufacturers lose patience with Cannon Lake

Cannon Lake is a processor that comes with a GPU built into the same package and that Intel has been working on for a few years. The arrival of Cannon Lake means a significant advance especially in the notebook sector, with higher performance in both the CPU and the new generation GPU all integrated on the same chip. Cannon Lake will also make the jump to 10nm, which will improve power consumption while being faster.

Due to this delay, there are some manufacturers that are planning to skip this generation and bet directly on Ice Lake, which, like CannonLake, will come with CPU, GPU and memory controller on the same die.

Promises higher performance and lower consumption

After five consecutive years of declining sales, demand for notebooks has stabilized in 2017. Industry players expect Intel's new 10nm Cannon Lake CPUs - which are expected to improve performance by up to 25% and reduce 45% power consumption compared to existing 14nm Kaby Lake processors - may once again lift the laptop market, sources said.

In any case, it seems that this delay is not going to affect Intel as much, which is currently unrivaled in the laptop sector.
