According to sources at the ZDNet site, Microsoft is currently working on an update for Windows Phone phones that will allow x86 applications to run on ARM processors.

It would come with the Redstone 3 update for Windows Phone

Microsoft is currently developing the Redstone 2 update that will be released in March (presumably, there is no official date) but also in the future Redstone 3 that will be ready by Fall 2017.

It is in the Redstone 3 update where the possibility of running x86 applications on ARM processors would be added thanks to an emulator, a technology that would have the code name CHPE.

This new feature is focused directly on Continuum, which is now called Modern Glass, which turns our Windows Phone into a desktop PC. Until now, with Modern Glass, we were only able to run applications that were UWP (Universal Windows Applications) but with this new addition, we could now run any Windows desktop application.

As seen in the screenshot above these lines, you can see that some lines of code have even been leaked that reveal the existence of CHPE technology. If Microsoft achieves this, Windows Phone phones would have a much greater appeal, they would actually be a phone and a computer at the same time.

This feature will probably be implemented next year when the new Microsoft phone, Surface Phone, is announced, which was recently seen in pictures.
