Microsoft's Surface mobile has been making waves since its existence was confirmed late last year. While there is no word on when the company will launch the device, one thing is for sure. The Surface phone is under development and Microsoft has big plans for this device. It is rumored to have the Snapdragon 835, which will be able to run x86 applications with its ARM processor. Microsoft already freaks out in video how this 'emulation' of Windows 10 behaves with a Snapdragon processor.

ARM clarifies that any manufacturer will be able to run x86 on its mobile chips

While the x86 system is still under test, ARM has made some clarifications today. Qualcomm recently stated that it will be the only ARM partner that will support x86 applications on its platform. Now, they clarify that not only Qualcomm, that other manufacturers may also be able to run x86 applications on their platforms, such as Samsung, Apple, Huawei or others.

Samsung and Apple rub their hands

If support for x86 on ARM processors starts strong in 2017, it will mean bad news for Intel as users will be able to do more on their mobiles and tablets, saving them the need for desktop / laptop computers for low-purpose needs. Apple has also been looking for its own A-series chips to replace Intel 's low-power Core M solutions in many of its products. If ARM processors are capable of running x86 applications and systems, they would have no need to use Intel processors.

Undoubtedly the future Microsoft Surface Phone will set the pace for the x86 in mobile, hopefully see it soon, perhaps at the next Mobile World Congress.
