What is a MiFi router

The term MiFi is actually a brand created by Novatel Wireless to define a device that works as a portable modem for satellite connections; primarily 4G connections via SIM card. The MiFi work in the same way that a hotspot established from our mobile phone would, but with some incentives that favor its use as a connection point compared to the smartphone alternative, which usually have a somewhat poor Wifi chip.

The main advantage that these types of devices offer compared to firmer alternatives such as a traditional ADSL modem is their portability. Firstly, MiFi devices can have a low autonomy if we connect a large number of devices at the same time, or make heavy use of their functions. It is also interesting to know that not all MiFi share the same speeds and in high-load scenarios, the speed limitations of 4G connections can play tricks on us.
