AMD began reforming its Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) division last January after Raja Koduri's departure, the first step was to put the division under Mike Rayfield as AMD's senior vice president and general manager of RTG. Now the RTG takes a new step with the signing of Martin Ashton as corporate vice president. Martin Ashton was Executive Vice President of Engineering for Imagination Technologies for 26 years, leaving the company in late 2016 to work with Intel in its graphics card division. Thanks to accumulated experience at Intel and Imagination Technologies, Ashton is an ideal candidate for a position within Radeon.

Ashton will work with David Wang to develop the new Radeon graphics product roadmap and create a new range of competitive products. Chip development takes a long time, so Ashton's arrival is not expected to have its short-term effects.
The Radeon Technologies Group division has undergone a major transition in recent months, under new leadership to create highly competitive graphics products in the future. Nvidia is currently dominating the iron fist graphics card market, although the future looks quite promising with reinforcements from Radeon Technologies Group, and Intel's intention to enter this market in 2020.
Hopefully in the coming years we can enjoy greater competition in the graphics card market, as it is something that only benefits users by having more options for better prices.
