Memtest pro what it is and what it is for

MemTest Pro is a perfect tool to make a quick diagnosis in our RAM memory. If you want to know it, enter and discover it.

It doesn't always happen, but our RAM may be failing. This causes very important system failures, such as blue screens. It can be a little difficult to diagnose faults in RAM. However, MemTest Pro is one of those programs that allows us to rule out failures in this component. We show you below.

MemTest Pro

It is a program that makes a diagnosis of the operation of our RAM memory in a simple way. Its purpose is to find errors quickly, without having to restart and boot from the BIOS. We know that there are more programs for this purpose, but we wanted to review this one.

First of all, to say that it is a program created by HCI Design and that it is paid, despite having a free version. In our case, we have tried the free version, which is very light and works for all Windows. Thus, Mac computers are left out.

It is a portable tool that comes in a.zip file that has an executable inside. Opening it shows us a warning to use it correctly:

• Close all running programs. Click "OK" to close this window and then click "Start testing". Let MemTest go up to 100% or until it detects errors.

After clicking OK, with all our good will we click on “ Start testing ”. However, we get a notice that says that Windows limits between 2 and 3.5 Gb of RAM to test. The alternative that it offers us is to open several MemTest Pro to test all the RAM memory.

In my case, I have tested 2 GB of RAM with no errors. Tell you that the temperature of your processor will increase during the test, but it will remain at a more or less constant level.

Is the paid version worth it?

It seems that the paid version is still very simple, but it brings the possibility of configuring threads and mb by threads. In addition, we have a log in which we see all the operations that are carried out during the test. It doesn't seem like a tremendous improvement, but it only costs € 5, and you can pay by PayPal.

In my opinion, the free version is enough, since it is rare to find problems in the RAM. So, we are not going to use this program frequently; in fact, I can think of few uses that we can give it:

• When our system fails, it won't always be. When we buy second-hand RAM. In order to verify that they work correctly.

Personally, I can't think of any more uses, so paying € 5 twice in a row… doesn't seem like an ultra-necessary program. From my perspective, it does make more sense to pay for a program like CPU-Z or HWMonitor than we are going to use it a lot, especially the last one.

In addition, we find other programs with the same purpose, such as MemTest86 and MemTest64.
