Microphone design

After this Unboxing we are going to focus on the design of this microphone, because we have a very elegant and refined product with magnificent finishes.

The main element where the membranes of this Ozone Rec X50 are stored, is a round encapsulation made of aluminum with an H-type fastening. All this is painted in matt black and the fingerprints do not stick at any time, and this it's a nice touch.

In the upper area is the sound capture system with an integral coarse-grained metal grille protection, and just below it, another finer, larger grille that stores the entire foam filter system. This package is completely hard and could easily withstand a fall, or at least that makes us think.

The cylinder measures are 134 mm high, and a diameter of 47 mm. This means that it is quite bulky and also this design will allow us to buy extra accessories such as external filters for air and saliva or even a hair windshield. Very elegant and with a very professional cut.

In the part considered front, we have a notorious function selection wheel. The second element is the arm that connects the microphone to the base. It is simply about 6.5 cm long, also made of steel, and can be installed by threading down and up. No appreciable secret. When assembled, we have a team with measurements of 290 mm in height by 180 mm in diameter, due to the legs.

The Ozone Rec X50 microphone features an electrode condenser capsule-type pickup system . It supports two types of pickup patterns, the first is the omni-directional with a 9.7mm capsule, and the second is a cardioid type, which captures sound thanks to a 16mm bidirectional capsule.

This sound can be captured at a sampling rate of 48 kHz at a speed of 16 bits and at a response frequency of between 20 Hz and 20, 000 Hz, thus being the entire audible spectrum of the human being. The data that the manufacturer offers us about the sensitivity are 4.5 mV or Pa at 1kHz, a pity that it is not in the form of decibels and maximum SPL, because it would be very interesting.

Likewise, we have experienced greater clarity with the cardioid-type pickup pattern, simply by eliminating all the noise that occurs in the back and of less use for the interlocutor.

Next, we leave you a couple of sound recordings in both capture patterns under the conditions we have discussed and through the Oceanaudio software at 48000Hz / 16 bits. We can hear a fairly clear voice without any strange sound apparatus and distortion, especially in the cardioid type. Also note that at about 60 cm I have the PC tower that emits a noise of about 30-40 dB, and practically nothing is heard during the capture.

The Ozone Rec X50 is a microphone that has left us with a very good experience in its design and also in the good quality with which it records. In fact, we have chosen to stay with him for future recordings if necessary.
