Synaptics may have given Windows fans something to look forward to with its latest announcement, as it mentions a 'next-generation' operating system from Microsoft with a focus on biometric security and Windows Hello.

Synaptics reveals that Microsoft is working on a new Windows

The clue actually comes from an announcement by the biometric sensor company, which is joining forces with AMD to develop a "new industry benchmark in high-security biometric fingerprint authentication." The partnership's goal is to make use of the Synaptics FS7600 Match-in-Sensor, which is a fully self contained and isolated fingerprint sensor technology. This means that patterns are stored and combined separately from the rest of the system and the operating system, thus adding a new layer of security to the authentication process.

According to the announcement, the technology will also be based on AMD's Ryzen Mobile platforms and a new Microsoft operating system, referred to twice in the first paragraph:

Synaptics Incorporated (…) today announced a joint initiative focused on offering a new industry benchmark in high-security biometric fingerprint authentication for business / commercial and consumer laptops based on the next-generation AMD mobile platform. Ryzen ™ and Microsoft's next-generation operating system. The collaboration brings a new level of security to AMD-based notebooks by leveraging Synaptics' exclusive FS7600 Match-in-Sensor ™ fingerprint sensor technology with powerful AMD Ryzen Mobile processors and Microsoft's upcoming biometric security operating system, including Windows Hello.

Microsoft's Inspire partner conference will be held July 15-18, so there might be an announcement there about a new operating system, or perhaps it's too soon, we don't know. We will keep abreast of news.
