Motorola moto g7 play review in spanish (full analysis)

With the Motorola Moto G7 Play, the company continues the line of its predecessors, in the most basic range of its different models. For this version of 2019 some new features have been added with respect to the previous model. One of the most obvious is the elongated notch that is embedded within a 5.7-inch screen. Digging a little more, we can glimpse a good autonomy thanks to its 3000 mAh battery and a modern operating system with Android Pie 9. Unlike other models, we will only find a single rear camera, somewhat understandable due to its cheap price, but not as bad as it might seem. Let's see it in depth in the review.

Technical characteristics Motorola Moto G7 Play

Unboxing

The packaging of the Motorola Moto G7 Play with wavy style and green color, undoubtedly stands out among any box from another company. Its minimalist front part dispenses with a smartphone image. Only the Motorola and model name and logo are included. Inside we find the basic elements to use the device:

  • Motorola Moto G7 Play. Power adapter. Type C microUSB charging cable.

Design

The Motorola Moto G7 Play has a design in which curved lines prevail on its side edges and slightly towards the rear. Its front has a glass finish protected with Gorilla Glass 3 and with the edges in black independently of the back cover. This back cover, which is made of plastic but slightly imitating the metallic texture, offers a good feeling despite what it might seem at first. It is possible to find it in the colors black, blue and gold.

At the size of 71.5 x 147.3 x 8mm, the hand feel is pretty good. Not having large dimensions, it fits well in the hand. This is also helped by its light weight of 149 grams, which we hardly noticed.

As we said in the introduction to the review, the front of this Motorola Moto G7 Play is the first in the range to add the much-hated notch. Its style is of the elongated type instead of the small drop of high-end models. This notch includes the speaker for calls while the front camera and the led flash are located on both sides.

The side edges next to the 2.5 screen are really small, however, the bottom one where the Motorola name is located, if it has around 1 cm.

The back has the only main camera just in the upper central part, along with the led flash that is located immediately below. This set protrudes very slightly from the casing, causing the annoying bailoteo of the terminal when placing it on a flat surface.

The fingerprint sensor is also located in this section, slightly lower than the camera area. The Motorola logo is silk-screened on the inside of the hole for the finger.

If we go to the side edges, we can see that at the top it has been decided to keep the 3.5 mm audio jack, something less and less usual but, obviously, many continue to appreciate it. Next to it is also the characteristic noise canceling microphone.

The card tray with two nanoSIM cards and a microSD card sits solitary on the left side edge of the Motorola Moto G7 Play. On the other hand, on the right we locate the volume buttons in the upper area and the off and on buttons, in a more centered position and well arranged to press it with your fingers.

Lastly, the bottom edge houses the call microphone, microUSB Type-C charging port and multimedia speaker.

screen

In a low-end model like this it is normal to find a screen with decent characteristics and not very bombastic. In this case, the 5.7-inch screen with a 16: 9 ratio has a useful area of 77% IPS LCD type and has an HD + resolution of 720 x 1512 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 294.

At first glance, the screen makes a good impression, but after a closer examination it ends up showing the small limitations of the resolution. On the other hand, the quality of the colors shown is good enough but without standing out, even on some occasions there is some slight saturation. The contrast as usual in this type of screen, despite achieving a good level does not get to get good blacks.

The viewing angles are really good in this regard and there is no discoloration to the tack. Another remarkable feature of this Motorola Moto G7 Play is its maximum brightness, which is perfectly capable of displaying screen data outdoors without problem, something that worried me in such an economical model, so the surprise has been greater.

In adjustment we will have the possibility to alternate between three color modes: Saturated, natural and improved. However, this feature is currently not working as it should and an update will be required to correct it.

Sound

The only speaker built into the bottom edge of the Motorola Moto G7 Play has decent quality with no canned sound and generally no distortion, and we generally say that on some rare occasion we did notice some slight sound distortion. The power level, on the other hand, is not one of its virtues either and in noisy environments it is difficult to appreciate the reproduced sound.

OS

One of the best features of this Motorola Moto G7 Play resides in its version of Android 9 Pie, which, in addition to having the latest version of the Google system, hardly has any differences with Android Puro, just a few changes in settings and quick gestures. When it comes to bloatware, fortunately we found practically nothing, except for a proprietary Motorola application that can be easily uninstalled.

We find ourselves with a light and quite solid system in which the good optimization made can be seen. Removing the glitch from the display mode setting, we haven't noticed any other obvious glitches.

performance

The low-end eight-core Snapdragon 632 fits perfectly with this Motorola Moto G7 Play, both complement each other to provide pretty good performance and system usage, where it fits. With this processor and the 2 GB of available LPDDR3 RAM, the operating system may not have flown, but it has run smoothly enough to enjoy it.

The SoC of the Snapdragon 632 is accompanied by the Adreno 506 GPU, which allows you to enjoy games that do not have a large graphic load or, failing that, you can play a lot of them but with the minimum / medium graphics options and a slight tug at times. This is the case of the Playerunknown`s Battlegrounds game where with graphics in medium quality, the gameplay was more or less smooth and only occasionally did you notice any severe scratching of fps.

This Motorola Moto G7 Play has 32 GB of internal memory that can be expanded via microSD card up to 512 GB. The internal memory included is a low amount for the amount of data that we usually store today, but the cut in that aspect is understood if we take stock of its price.

The fingerprint sensor on the back works really well and quickly recognizes the fingerprint. It may not be able to compete with other faster sensors, but it does its job well.

Camera

In principle, a low-end smartphone could not especially expect much from this section, it is usually the first component in which companies stick the snip to cut expenses. This time we have been able to verify that the camera performs better than expected in the first instance, always within the context.

The main CMOS BSI camera features 13 megapixels, a focal length of 2.0, and a pixel size of 1, 120 microns. Among its options we find some such as autofocus, digital zoom and exposure compensation, but optical image stabilization is left out, for example. Similarly, we note the absence of any other camera supporting the main one.

The lack of hardware is compensated in this Motorola Moto G7 Play with well-resolved software to improve snapshots and with a large number of options at our disposal.

In good light, the captured image offers, in principle, a very good quality of detail, in which its deficiencies are exposed when enlarging the image. The colors are shown faithfully but with a somewhat dull and washed tone. The dynamic range, on the other hand, is simply decent, with the areas brighter than the dark ones, which maintain some noise. With HDR the image improves and has a pretty good effect.

In interior scenes, noise abounds excessively and the washed tone of the colors is more pressing, leaving quite irregular photographs.

When taking photos at night, the result is sometimes slightly better than indoors. Its focal length of 2, manages to capture enough light to obtain a good detail of the environment, with a slight background noise. Focusing in good light does not end up being precise, but it is in low light that its performance is most erratic and it is necessary to maintain a steady pulse to achieve decent photos.

Among the options of the app, we find the usual modes of panning, portrait without the possibility of blurring, panning and manual controls, with many adjustment options. Among the available modes, the most curious is the so-called SpotColor, which allows you to maintain the color of an object while the rest are shown in black and white.

The front-facing selfie camera has 8 megapixels with a focal aperture of 2.2 and a pixel size of 1, 120 microns. Its image quality is quite good for what is asked of it, capturing images with more than enough detail and good but little vivid colors, very similar to those of its main sister. The inclusion of a front flash for night shots or in low light is appreciated. In the software section, the SpotColor function must be highlighted again together with the beauty mode, already typical, and manual adjustments.

It is possible to record video in 1080p at 30 fps with both the rear and front cameras, and 4K at 30 fps with only the rear camera. As there is no Optical Image Stabilizer, stabilization is done using software and cropping some of the image, but the end result is satisfactory.

Battery

There were different rumors about the battery capacity that this Motorola Moto G7 Play would have. Finally, it arrived with 3000 mAh and we have been able to test its autonomy using social networks, web content and multimedia. The average obtained has been more or less two days of use with about 7 hours of screen, figures that we liked and seemed quite good.

Unfortunately, as far as charging is concerned, this model does not have fast charging, so getting the terminal to charge 100% takes approximately one hour and fifty minutes or two hours.

Connectivity

Among the connection options we find Bluetooth 4.2 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, A-GPS, GLONASS, GPS, 3.5mm Jack, FM Radio, VoLTE. Unfortunately, this model lacks the NFC technology, so present today for many payments in stores, but it cannot be blamed for wanting to reduce expenses as much as possible to present a terminal at a reduced price.

Conclusion and final words of the Motorola Moto G7 Play

Lenovo has generally done a good job mounting this Motorola Moto G7 Play. Perhaps it does not have the latest design or the most cutting-edge features, obviously, but the company's point of view was to create an affordable smartphone for people who do not look for the best and it is something they have achieved with components that perform well enough to enjoy it and not end up throwing it away.

We have been surprised in a low range like this the good performance of its operating system, its great autonomy and the quality of its only rear camera. These are important and well-managed factors, but you cannot have everything as evidenced by its low storage capacity or the absence of technologies as useful today as NFC.

In conclusion, for people who are not looking for a great terminal or even for those who want to give it to a son or father, it is a great terminal that does not disappoint. It is definitely not the best option for gamers who want to play games fluently. It can be obtained for a price of € 169, quite competitive for the Spanish market.
