MSI Z390 motherboards now support new 32GB JEDEC memory by DIMM
This support comes in the form of new BIOS updates, allowing support on all Z390 motherboards, allowing models with 4 DIMM banks to support up to 128GB of DDR4 memory. New BIOS files are available for download for MSI Z390 MEG, MPG, MAG or PRO motherboards. It is not known at this time if this support will be added to the other MSI 300 series motherboards, or if similar functionality is coming to their AM4 series motherboards.
The latest JEDEC 2048 × 8 standard DDR4 memories can reach a capacity of up to 32GB with a single DIMM. All MSI Z390 motherboards with updated BIOS can now increase their memory capacity up to double, with a maximum of 128 GB of RAM. This new maximum capacity seems to be more prepared for the future than for the present, except for some specific needs, such as using RAMDisk or if we use the same computer for several systems, for example.
At this time it is unknown when we will start seeing the new 32GB DDR4 modules in stores, although we hope to start seeing high-capacity DDR4 memory modules at CES 2019 starting in a few days.
