The advent of 'dual capacity' memory, which supports 64GB modules per DIMM, is a boon to those with motherboards with only two memory banks. Until now, ASUS Z390 motherboards only supported a maximum of 64GB, but that's changing thanks to new BIOS updates.

ASUS releases new BIOS for its Z390 motherboards with 128GB support

Previously, Z390 chipset motherboards supported a maximum of 64GB. Those who wanted to use 128GB could only do so on the Intel HEDT X299 platform. Mainly because the only 128GB kits available are 8x16GB modules, and X299 cards typically have four DIMM slots to fill. Meanwhile, Z390 motherboards have a maximum of four DIMM slots, so 32GB DDR4 modules are required.

ASUS has been working with G.SKILL to launch these “dual capacity” DDR4s to market. In fact, G.SKILL announced theirs three months ago. Similarly, ZADAK also has these dual-capacity modules, compatible with the ASUS boards that support it.

Obviously, these memory kits are quite expensive. ZADAK DC DDR4 is available in 64GB (2x 32GB) kits operating at speeds of 3000MHz, 3200MHz, and 3600MHz. These cost $ 799, $ 899, and $ 999 respectively. So a 3600MHz DC DDR4 128GB (4x32GB) kit will cost you almost $ 2, 000.

What ASUS motherboards are compatible with 128 GB DDR4?

Since 128GB DDR4 support requires the latest ninth-generation Intel Core processors, you should check for the latest BIOS updates for your ASUS motherboard.
