Msi sets a new world record for oc with ddr4 memory
Table of contents:
MSI has made it clear that DDR4 memory can still be pushed a little beyond its limits, setting a new world record for such a module.
The new world speed record for DDR4 RAM shared by MSI reaches 5902MHz
In a TechPowerUp report, MSI has just set a new world record for DDR4 RAM speed of 5902MHz. Is this the stable peak performance for next-generation RAM?
At the time of writing, the highest RAM speed that can be purchased is around 4200MHz. Some reasonably decent overclocking can push that down to around 4500MHz, but anything beyond that is terrain only for professional overclockers.
Achieving 5902MHz (from MSI Kovan Yang's internal overclocker), therefore, is clearly impressive. MSI, however, wanted to point out that this was accomplished using the proprietary MPG Z390I GAMING EDGE AC motherboard in conjunction with HyperX Predator DDR4 memory. Of course, some liquid nitrogen was also used.
In terms of home use, this is, of course, totally unfeasible. However, MSI shows the advantages of its MPG Z390I GAMING EDGE motherboard, which is capable of easily supporting memory running at this speed.

Can this record be broken again? Possibly. However, DDR4 memory is clearly approaching its limits. With DDR5 expected for next year (or two), of course, RAM speeds are expected to go up again as happened in the jump from DDR3 to DDR4.
