According to the Polish information portal PurePC, msi will tackle AGESA microcode problems with a relaunch of its 400 Series . The company plans to solve the problem with new and more generous 32 MByte BIOS chips , which offers much more space for other technologies.

New 32 MByte BIOS chips

As we anticipated in a recent news, some manufacturers have been having problems with the large size of the AGESA microcode . This caused them great headaches, since all the previous code did not fit together with the new one. The problem was so serious that it almost reached the point of making backward compatibility with previous processors impossible, so the solution was to cut back.

To allow the AMD 300 and 400 Series motherboards to be backward compatible when upgrading, they had to do without past functionality. Now, if we update the motherboard to support Ryzen 3000 we lose BIOS 5, RAID or Bristol Ridge, among other things.

However, msi plans to relaunch its 400 Series with a 32 MByte BIOS chip - that's twice as much space. With that you can keep the old compatibility while supporting the new Ryzen 3000.

All the plates that receive this new “re-branding” will be baptized with the MAX label, thus distinguishing them from traditional plates. Of course, we confirm that even with these updates we will not have PCIe Gen 4, since that is exclusive to the hardware that currently only carries the X570 . msi also claims to be working on variants for other boards such as the A320 chipset.

The movement of the Taiwanese brand is understandable, since it takes advantage of the pull of the Ryzen 3000 for those who do not want to spend a large amount of money on the X570 . Until the beginning of 2020 we will not have plates of the 500 Series in the input range, so they squeeze a little more the golden goose.

What do you think of the msi movement? Do you think it is right or do you think they are exceeding it? Share your ideas below.
