We continue to see the arrival of new M.2 storage units, and with the intention of offering a very attractive proposal in terms of balance between price and features. This time it is the new Mushkin Source models with a SATA III 6 Gb / s interface.

New Mushkin Source SSDs with Sata interface

Mushkin has announced M.2-SATA variants of its most popular SSDs, the Mushkin Source. Built in the M.2-2280 form factor, the drives feature a 6 Gb / s SATA interface to offer a very competitive selling price. The units combine a Silicon Motion SM2258XT controller and Micron 3D TLC NAND flash memories, all in a DRAM-less cache design to further reduce manufacturing cost. As we can see, the design has been thought to reduce costs as much as possible, without sacrificing good work and overall quality.

In less favorable environments, they offer up to 78, 000 4K IOPS random reads, and up to 81, 000 IOPS 4K random writes.

Among its exclusive features are LPDC ECC, Data Shaping, Global Wear-leveling, Static Data-refresh and MEDS (Muskin Enhanced Data-Protection Suite), advanced imaging and data backup software. All drives are backed by 3-year warranties and may be priced under $ 100, except for the 960GB variant. They will not break performance records, but they offer a very compact and economical storage medium.
