The kilocore is born, the first 1000-core processor
Table of contents:
A group of researchers from the University of California have managed to create the first processor with no less than 1, 000 processing cores, the new KiloCore processor that could go on the market much sooner than expected.
KiloCore is the most core processor on the market and has exceptional power efficiency
The new KiloCore processor integrates a total of 621 million transistors and 1, 000 processing cores to be able to execute up to 1.75 trillion instructions per second. This new chip is manufactured by IBM using a 32nm CMOS process and may hit the market soon.

Its creators pride themselves on being the processor with the highest number of cores and the highest frequency, the KiloCore can operate at a maximum clock speed of 1.78 GHz. Another of its main features is the possibility of transferring data from one core to another directly without the need to go through a buffer pool.
Despite its large number of cores, the KiloCore boasts impressive energy efficiency by being able to turn off unused cores. This chip has a consumption of only 0.7 W when it is processing 115 billion instructions per second, which means that it can be powered by a simple AA battery. This level of efficiency puts the KiloCore 100 times higher than the most efficient laptop processors.
This new processor is capable of tasks related to wireless data transmission and reception, video processing, data encryption, and many more tasks related to scientific research and data centers.
