Nero 2017 platinum review in Spanish (full analysis)

We continue our collaboration with the Nero team and we bring you the review of Nero 2017 Platinum, the latest version of the suite par excellence for recording optical media of all types and generations, from audio CDs to Blu-ray's, content editing multimedia and many more features that we find in this great new version. Don't miss our review! Here we go!

First of all, we thank the Nero team for the trust they placed in giving us the product for analysis.

Nero 2017 Platinum is a complete suite that allows burning all common disc formats, that is, CD-R CD-RW, DVD ± R, DVD ± RW, BD-R, BD-RE, BD-R DL, BD- RE DL, BD-R TL (BDXL), BD-RE TL (BDXL), BD-R QL (BDXL), BD-RE QL (BDXL) DVD-RAM and DVD ± R DL, and it is accompanied by a suite with all the extras that we may need for it, from video conversion to design and printing of the cover of our disc.

No surprise in the minimum requirements, the application is quite light and its task is simple and direct, nobody needs a machine to record discs.

Nero 2017 Platinum

For obvious reasons we are not going to make an exhaustive visit to each and every one of the applications that make up Nero 2017 Platinum, but we will highlight the basic functions and the main differentiating features of this complete suite compared to its rivals in the market.

As usual, the people of Nero think of all users and the installation does not pose any problem, and both the software and its dependencies are installed in a few clicks and without any complications for the user. Yes we should mention that there are isolated installers of free applications, such as Nero WaveEditor or Nero SoundTrax that we will have to download and install manually, however the main interface makes it easier for us and we greatly appreciate the movement of the company to offer part of its software to users who cannot afford the entire suite.

Main interface

Nero Burning ROM

This is surely the most important program in the Nero 2017 Platinum suite, thanks to it we will be able to generate our projects and burn them to disk. An old acquaintance, the assistant, helps us throughout the process to make it really easy.

The design of the main window has not undergone major changes either, it is still simple but intuitive, we drag the files that we want to record to the left side, we select "Record" in the toolbar, where we can also configure the speed and other advanced parameters, and the program takes care of the rest

A unique functionality of this application is the SecurDisc format, which adds redundancy to our data (in exchange, of course, for the loss of space) to dramatically improve the integrity of our data in the face of possible deterioration of the media. Furthermore, it allows us to add a digital signature and / or 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption to our data. The level of redundancy can be adjusted from x1.5 to x9, the more abundance the more the effective capacity of the storage medium is reduced, but in return we gain in security.

There is a free application to read discs burned in this format called Nero SecurDisk viewer on the download page, so the recovery of these backups will not be a problem if we do not have the license at hand or if we want to pass files to friends and family.

Nero Media Home

Nero Media Home is the ideal Nero 2017 Platinum application to manage all our multimedia content, it is a control center to manage, create, transmit and play all your files in almost any format, be it video, music, movies or images.

Nero MediaHome includes a very practical import system to offer us a central access point for videos, photos and music in any format. You can import files from devices as varied as external hard drives and smartphones, Windows Media Player, iTunes and even its online storage solution Nero BackItUp.

Includes the Nero Streaming Player application to bring movies, photos, slide shows and much more to all kinds of compatible devices such as tablets. The application includes a browser that can automatically search the supported files on our computer, and from the "play in" option we can send it to the device of our choice, which must have the MediaHome Receiver application installed (free).

The image quality is quite good, and we can see 1080p files without cuts or jerks, we have an inevitable buffering time, but in general the experience is quite good.

Nero CoverDesigner

It is an old acquaintance that in this new version Nero 2017 Platinum maintains its good usability without great news or boasts. We have a few predefined templates that will fill the cover with the data of our project, either the artist name and the list of songs for an audo disc or the list of files with their size on a data disc.

Nero Video

Another of the great applications of the Nero 2017 Platinum suite, will delight all users who are video fans. It is a complete program for converting video and recording it on discs that offers us a multitude of options and allows us to record in 4K format for the most demanding. The application seeks to be very intuitive and easy to use, so it does not offer advanced options such as control over bitrate or the codec used.

Creating a DVD or Blu-Ray with the videos from our PC is really easy, just drag the files you want to the window and follow the wizard. The application includes a complete menu editor, with a few dynamic templates. If we waste a little time polishing our menus, it can be said that the results are practically professional.

Nero Music Recorder

An excellent application that is within Nero 2017 Platinum although with reduced functionality, because if we want to use it in all its glory we must unlock the full version for an approximate price of 20 euros.

It is a great streaming application that will give us access to a lot of radio and music stations that we can play directly from the network. We can search all our favorite music to create playlists and we can even download to our team the songs that we like the most, we can also save it to our mobile device to always have it at hand. It has simply seemed to us the best application for music fans.

Smartphone applications (iOS / Android)

Nero AirBurn

A simple but powerful application that allows us to record in a very practical way the files of our mobile phone on a computer that is running Nero Burning ROM on our local network. The functionality is twofold, since it serves us both to save copies in physical format comfortably and to quickly transfer many files to our computer in the form of a disk image, if we select as recorder “Image Recorder”.

The process is really simple, we choose the images we want, we can also modify the name (although not the copy path), we choose our PC from the list of equipment (in case we have several PCs running Nero), and in seconds our disk already is being recorded. After transferring the files and starting the recording we can close AirBurn, or wait for it to notify us when the recording process ends.

By contrast, usability is limited, if we want to use this function we must have the computer ready and with a disk inserted in the recording unit, so it does not save us too much compared to transferring the images to the PC and then recording them, we must also be within the local network, we can not do it from outside the house even with everything ready.

Nero Receiver

Another great application for our smartphone or tablet that will allow us to stream between both devices. The application allows us to send videos, photos and local music from our PC to a mobile device to enjoy it more comfortably. Furthermore, if we combine it with Nero MediaHome we will obtain even more navigation functions among the different files stored on our PC and we will be able to carry out advanced searches.

Nero BackitUp

We also highlight the Nero BackitUp utility that will allow us to make backup copies of the content of our smartphone to save them on our PC. For this we must install the BackitUp application on our mobile or tablet, start the assistant on our PC and connect the smartphone. From there all the configuration will be done from the smartphone.

Final words and conclusion

Nero 2017 Platinum proves once again that it is the leading suite in its sector, the innovations compared to previous versions are few but it is not surprising when we are talking about such a complete product and that it is well ahead of its most direct rivals. The new features are limited to updating the suite with the latest video formats, strengthening 4K support and improving performance with recent operating systems. An attitude that is perfectly understandable when you are the undisputed leader and the truth is that there is no need to risk as long as it continues to work perfectly.
