Surely you have been as surprised as I am but yes, it is true, it is not a joke or you are dreaming. The streaming video giant Netflix has launched an application that allows you to manage DVD movie rentals in the middle of 2017.

Finally, Netflix launches an application that allows you to manage DVD rentals

Given that Netflix has achieved enormous popularity worldwide in recent years due to its efforts to become the great distributor of digital content, it is easy to forget that 4 million people still use the DVD rental service with which the company debuted in 1998. That is why the news will be very well received by all these people who, finally, will have an application on their smartphones with which to search for movies and manage their DVD rentals more quickly and easily.

The new DVD Netflix app works in a very similar way as the Netflix app we all know does. In other words, once the user credentials have been entered, the home screen shows the latest news and recommendations based on genres and categories. When you touch on the cover of a movie, the user can give it a rating, read the synopsis, consult the main actors, director, screenwriter, as well as see a list of similar movies.

The main difference, obviously, lies in the way we watch movies. While you can watch a movie online from the regular Netflix app, here you see a “+” button on the Netflix DVD app that, when pressed, adds the movie to the rental queue.

Also, if the user has other movies on their list, they can change the order of preference, the disc format or remove them from the list. And of course, the application also sends a notification when Netflix sends and receives their DVD.

This functionality was removed from the official Netflix application in 2011 and now, six years later, when many of us don't even remember what it is to rent movies, it returns as an independent application. It sounds strange, but it shows that the company still thinks about a very small sector of its clientele.
