Newegg started shipping the Intel Optane SSD 905P in the M.2 22100 format, raising some questions about certain information on the product page. Newegg's listing says "Additional Thermal Solution Required" near the top of the page, but does not give us any recommendation or detail beyond that statement.

Intel Optane SSD 905P in M.2 22110 format is listed on Newegg with a little surprise

905P M.2 images have been seen covered with an EK passive cooler, but most images provided by Intel show only the bare NVMe device. The 905P M.2 disk drives that were showcased at Computex last June were also free of a heat sink. Tweaktown has contacted Intel for responses. The information obtained is that "Intel is working with EK to ensure that the thermal solution is available free of charge to customers who purchase the M.2 905P."

The trick here is that we have to make sure that retailers have it in stock so that it can be packaged with the Intel Optane SSD 905P M.2. In addition, of the hundreds of motherboards that will support the 22 X 110 M.2 905P, there is a subset of motherboards that will ship with their own thermal solution designed for the SSD. This thermal solution will be included in the motherboard box for those who wish to use it. " It is unclear if Newegg plans to ship the 905P M.2 with the 110mm EK cooler, the company offers the 80mm EK SSD cooler but a 110mm version cannot be found on the site.

For now, Newegg is waiting to comment on the matter.
