Nintendo broke the hearts of many gaming fans last week when it announced that it would discontinue the NES Classic Edition mini-console. It was a real surprise, and not only because the NES Classic Edition mini console was extremely popular, but it also suffered from limited stock from the first days of its launch.

Possible SNES news

However, now it seems that Nintendo's plans are being clarified, since a new report by Eurogamer indicates that the NES Classic Edition was discontinued precisely because Nintendo wants to replace it with a mini version of its Super Nintendo Entertainment System console, which will apparently be called "SNES Classic Edition" and will arrive later this year.

The new SNES mini console could come with pre-installed games, just like the mini-NES, so the user will not have to carry cartridges to play. However, what is not known for now is what games will come with the console.

In case you don't know, the mini-NES was released with 30 pre-installed games, including some popular classics like the three Super Mario Brothers, Mega-man 2, Donkey Kong, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, PAC-MAN, Castlevania, Punch -Out and others.

For the next SNES, we will surely see titles like Super Mario Kart, which has sold about 8.8 million units so far, or Super Mario World, which boasts more than 20.6 million units sold, although we expect Nintendo to include more than 30 games this time.

There is also speculation about a possible launch of a mini Nintendo Switch, the company's latest portable console, which already boasts sales of more than 1 million units in the United States alone and is expected to reach sales of some 26 million units. globally until 2019.

Like the mini-NES and mini-SNES consoles, it is believed that the new version of the Nintendo Switch will also be smaller and more affordable than the standard model.
