We have new leaked information about the Nintendo Switch, which among many data, confirms the power that we can expect from this kind of hybrid between portable and desktop consoles that hit stores in early March.

When Nintendo made the official presentation of the console last month, the technical specifications of the Nintendo Switch had not been fully disclosed, therefore, we could not know how powerful this new game console could be. With the new leaked documentation, which emerged on Reddit and later on Neogaf, the mystery seems to be revealed.

Switch Technical Specifications

The processor is confirmed to belong to the Maxwell architecture with 256 CUDA cores, which is the same that Nvidia Shields TVs carry with the Tegra X1 chip. Although in this particular case (according to the documentation) the Swicth processor would have 4 cores instead of 8 from the Tegra X1. The amount of RAM is 4GB LPDDR4, which is shared with the GPU. Of those 4GB, 3.25GB will be available for gaming and the remainder dedicated to the console's operating system.

Switch highlights

From the documentation that has been leaked, we can summarize the most important.

  • A maximum of 8 people can be registered per console. The technical name of the HD rumble is 'Linear resonant actuator'. While Swicth is in portable mode we can have an unlock screen so that it does not turn on by itself. The console will have a Quick Menu when maintaining pressing the HOME button. The menu will appear above all the others without leaving the game that we are currently running. The keyboard will have predictive text as it happens on iOS and Android devices. The cartridges will come in various capacities, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. Any type of information may be recorded on the game server. The information may be tagged, searched and stored for later use.

Technologically we are not facing a video game console that tries to compete against XBOX One or Playstation 4 because it has the hardware of a laptop. It could be summed up that as a laptop, if it is a powerful device but as a desktop it probably does not meet the expectations of many.
