Finally, AMD confirmed and announced the Ryzen 9 3900 and Ryzen 5 3500X processors that had been leaked weeks ago. These chips are available only to OEM customers and system integrators.

Ryzen 9 3900 and Ryzen 5 3500X are confirmed by AMD

The Ryzen 9 3900 is available worldwide, while the Ryzen 5 3500X is only available in China at the moment.

AMD designed the Ryzen 9 3900 to deliver most of the 12-core, 24-wire power of the impressive Ryzen 9 3900X, but with a lower TDP of 65W. This is a significantly lower TDP than the 3900X's 105W.

The 3900's reduced power consumption is due to a 3.1 GHz lower base clock than the 3900X's 3.8 GHz. AMD also capo the Turbo speed at 4.3 GHz. Apart from those modifications, everything is the same on both chips, in addition to coming with the possibility of manual overclocking. The latter is interesting, since with OC we could have the theoretical performance of a 3900X.

The Ryzen 5 3500X, meanwhile, is featured as a six-core model, but it comes without multi-threading (SMT), which means it only has six performance threads. AMD tends to avoid the loss of functionality of its retail processors, so this decision gets a bit of attention.

The 3500X will only be available to OEM / SI customers in China. This chip is meant to cope with Intel's Core i5-9400F in the OEM market, but there are also rumors of a Ryzen 5 3500 (non-X model) coming out soon to the mass market.

AMD did not share the prices of these chips. As OEMs, they are purchased by volume for partners. We will be attentive to all the news.
