We still do not know too much about the technical characteristics of the Nintendo Switch officially but there are already very strong rumors that it will have a Tegra X1 chipa from Nvidia. But this time we are not going to talk about the power of the console but about another important aspect, the battery.

The battery that cannot be replaced on Nintendo Switch

According to a new a new FCC filing, we can learn more about the new Nintendo console: We now know that the device will likely ship with a non-removable battery.

This may sound like an insignificant detail, but it could make a difference to people concerned about the console's battery life. When the Wii U gamepad in the past was criticized for dying prematurely, Nintendo was able to release an easily-installed, high-capacity battery pack that increased runtime to 8 hours. This solution would not be possible with Switch. Consumers will have to contend with the life of the battery that cannot be replaced. Currently Lithium Ion batteries can be easily recharged but you cannot do it forever, these batteries have a limit of recharges and then need to be replaced. What will happen when the battery of the Nintendo Switch reaches its limit if it cannot be replaced?

However, it is possible that Nintendo could modify the final product to include a removable battery. We don't count on it though: the design of the tablet Switch doesn't leave much room for user serviceability - and it probably doesn't have an extra slot to accommodate a larger battery than the default one.

Nintendo is going to give a special event to present the console on January 13, where surely all our doubts will be resolved, especially the price.
