Last week Acer counted on us to showcase their new products at the New York event. We want to thank you for the opportunity to bring us to the Big Apple and browse among their next devices to bring you our evaluations.

We were one of the most active Spanish media outlets in publishing news for you on the web. In the same way, we want to give you a general summary of the event.

Acer Presentation 2017

On Wednesday we arrived at the hotel where Acer had housed its employees and we also stayed by all means. Jet lag did not prevent us from going out to dinner with the Marketing Director of Spain and Portugal and the press that accompanied him. We immediately realized one of New York's biggest attractions: we've been there in so many movies and series that every corner seems to hide a scene that we can (re) live.

The day of the event immediately followed, and with it everything Acer had prepared for us. At the world's largest laser IMAX 3D cinema , AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13, they began the presentation by giving numbers on the company's market relevance. To calm our impatience, they quickly went on to show us the technology at hand.

Being in a cinema they knew how to behave and first they showed us the equipment for all audiences. Given the success of the Swift ultrabook laptop and the Switch tablet (acer's answer to Microsoft's Surface range), they have decided to turn them into a family of products and to have more configurations of these devices. Of these, it should be noted that, together with the new Aspire family of All-in-one, they have managed to improve their performance and reduce noise thanks to their LiquidLoop cooling system that, without moving parts, extracts heat from the device.

They also showed us a 360º camera with enough power to reproduce the saved content on the device itself, since in many solutions it must be focused on a PC to be able to see it. They also showed us their Leap Ware smartwatch designed to monitor our productivity and workouts while maintaining style.

Lots of Gaming… and QUALITY

We quickly move to the sector that is booming and where they want to hit the table: gaming. The Predator Helios 300 laptop opens up a new affordable power line with more than enough specs that stay fresh with its also revamped Aeroblade 3D air-cooling system, which adds a complex shape to the turbine with taller blades in the center part. With that, air is maximized and cools more at less revs.

Precisely this advance, achieved in development to make the Predator 21 X possible, has allowed Acer to develop the finest gaming laptop without compromising on performance. We are talking about the Triton 700, which repeats the mechanical keyboard in the lower part of the body and places the trackpad in the upper part, since it can be much thinner and leave room for the amphibian's guts. So gamers will move the cursor when we do not have the mouse at hand (rarely) on a Gorilla Glass that reveals that well-used space for cooling. The benchmark results that were shown to us, in the absence of doing ours, point to the fact that the laptop manages to maintain adequate power to the specifications given that it maintains its temperature well, something that thin laptops usually suffer from.

Before leaving gaming they showed us their commitment to high-performance gaming monitors. And they have taken it seriously, since it has all the cutting-edge technologies that a professional gamer can be offered in 2017: 4 ms response time, 144 Hz refresh, 1000 nit brightness, 4K and HDR with G-Sync. They explained precisely how they achieve HDR through individual lighting in 384 areas that shine only when and where required. In this way, the dark parts can be backlit less and the lighter ones more at the same time, and the image gives us more information and experience. Intuitive eye tracking and extensive connectivity round out the features of this gaming monitor.

After the presentation - a lot of Virtual Reality

As they finally told us about the VR sector and the support they are giving in hardware and participating in industry agreements as with IMAX VR, we ventured to try out the game inspired by the movie John Wick and to see a cinematic trailer for a movie in VR. After literally falling to the ground twice trying to lean on a virtual reality railing of the shooter game, we tested the video. Precisely the video reproduction raised many doubts about how scenes can be solved when the viewer can move or look the other way. We were very, very impressed by the immersion in the action that took only a minute and we wanted to move away so as not to get punched.

It was time to test the products and interview John Miedema, Director of Product Operations for Europe at Acer.

Soon we will bring you his vision that was very clarifying for us.

We especially liked the build quality of the Triton 700 and we are waiting to have it in our hands to bring you a thorough review. Another product that surprised us was in the section of Chromebooks for education, where they have added their customizations to Chromebook OS and encapsulated it in a very resistant body that they undergo military-grade tests. Come on, just what it takes for any device that gets into a youngster's backpack.

Press and tourism dinner for the Big Apple

To end the event, we dined with Acer members and all the media on the roof of The Press Lounge, while the mist engulfed the most distant skyscrapers. Luckily the Joker did not appear, but unfortunately they did not call Batman either. When we returned to the hotel, several of the Spaniards decided to go to see Times Square at night, as it should be seen, and we ended up at The Rum Bar meeting a man who works at Intel, but luckily things didn't get messed up and we didn't end up in Palo High.

And before we left we had Saturday to jog around the big city with Juan de Clipset, Jaume de Topes de Gama, Martín from TecnonautaTV and Jorge from TuTecnoMundo. We couldn't see Casey Neistat or the Ghostbusters barracks (it's under construction), but we could see everything where our feet took us.

We are very grateful to Acer Spain for trusting us in their presentation and we hope to inform you more of everything that was presented, as always, in Professional Review.
