The Spanish manufacturer Nox returns to the fray with a new batch of three PC chassis. And we are going to start with the NOX HUMMER TGM the chassis with the best features of these three, which has glass on the side and front with no less than 4 addressable RGB fans installed that give it a look at the TGX level. However, it is a very small box and also light, easy to handle, but with certain limitations in space.

Let's see everything that this new chassis offers us at just over 60 euros in our review. But before we begin, we thank NOX for the trust placed in us by giving us their three new chassis for analysis.

NOX HUMMER TGM technical characteristics

Unboxing

As always, we start with the Unboxing of this NOX HUMMER TGM chassis. The brand remains true to its philosophy with a presentation in a neutral cardboard box with a silkscreen of the chassis in the form of a sketch next to the very large model so that we know what we buy.

The opening of the box is always at the top, and in this case we find a tower wrapped in a plastic bag charged with static electricity together with two expanded polystyrene cork molds that protect it from the delivery men and its good blows.

It will be an easy task to remove this tower from its packaging, since it is small and weighs very little. It really is very manageable, and we have some extra accessories inside it. For example, about 4 adapters for the installation of two 3.5-inch hard drives, clips to fix cables and the corresponding screws.

Exterior design

NOX has opted this time for the creation of three extremely compact chassis and oriented to slightly more basic assemblies in terms of number and category of components. Consider that it has a larger chassis that will fill in the gaps of these, and therefore we will gradually see these aspects. The measurements of this NOX HUMMER TGM are 440 mm high, 420 mm deep and only 198 mm wide, weighing only 4.5 Kg when empty.

Well, in terms of general appearance, it is a clearly compact mid-tower chassis , although with a PSU cover and tempered glass on the side and front. It includes 4 fans with lighting, and this is one of its differentiating characteristics, although we must say that the chassis built in 0.5mm SPCC steel is not very strong, we only have to see its weight. So, be careful with fatal blows to the ground or forcing certain parts too much, because it could get out of place.

Starting our external analysis in detail from the left lateral area, we have a tempered glass panel that occupies almost the entire area. This does not have any type of darkening and its installation consists of four manual thread screws located in the front area with rubber-coated support to prevent breakage and vibrations.

Right in the front area we have a grille for air intake without dust filter. As we see everything quite basic and concise from the point of view of design. And this is a cheap chassis and you need to cut down on details and focus on other aspects.

The right side area does not keep too many secrets. NOX HUMMER TGM maintains a side sheet metal with a flare of approximately 10mm to increase cable management capacity. The anchoring system is by means of two rear screws with manual thread. And in the front area the air inlet / outlet grille is repeated.

The front part is perhaps the best bet of the NOX from the aesthetic point of view. It is an area with opaque tempered glass except in the holes for the fans, of which we have three pre-installed units with ARGB lighting clearly visible in them.

This entire front will be completely removable, since the entire I / O panel is located on the top. As we see, it is interesting that these fans are installed on the outside of the chassis, but we do not have dust filters.

Located in the upper area, we have a large opening just behind the port panel that will be protected by a magnetic dust filter and with capacity for two 120mm fans.

Regarding the port panel itself, this time NOX HUMMER TGM includes the following:

  • 1x USB 3.1 Gen12x USB 2.0 Audio Jack Microphone Jack Power Button and RESET Button for lighting control

Not bad, three USB are a sufficient number for this chassis, and we value the fact of having a button to change the different lighting modes available, which are many and for all tastes.

The back includes a 120mm fan that also features ARGB lighting. What we should consider is that the plates of the expansion slots are fixed to the chassis with welds, so be sure to remove the appropriate ones before installing the motherboards. We must apply force, and we could damage the board, so if we have a dual slot GPU, you will have to remove two of them.

Finally we stand at the bottom to see the four legs that support the tower on the ground using plastic covers instead of rubber. On the back we see a basic medium grain dust filter installed on various metal grooves.

Surely the most important aspect that we should know is that the hard drive cabinet located just in front, cannot be removed and moved, since it is fixed with pins. This simple detail will largely determine the power supply installation capacity, since it only supports sizes of 160 mm, with certain limitations as we will see later.

Interior and assembly

The assembly we have made consists of:

  • AMD Ryzen 2700X with stock sink Asus Crosshair VII HeroAMD Radeon Vega 56PSU Corsair AX860i

Leaving the outer part behind, let's see those limitations that we have been commenting on throughout the review. The interior area is clearly divided into three parts, the main one, where the basic hardware is installed, the compartment for the PSU and the rear area to store cables as far as possible.

Well, we see this central area with numerous holes to pass cables, all of them without rubber protection. In fact, we also have holes in the PSU cover which will make connecting the I / O panel cables easier.

At NOX HUMMER TGM we will have enough space to install Mini ITX, Micro-ATX and ATX size motherboards. In fact, the plates with protectors on the port panel will enter very tight with the fan, having to force them as has been the case with the Crosshair VII Hero. We will have capacity for graphics cards up to 370 mm long if we do not put liquid cooling, and 310 mm if we place it on the front. And finally CPU coolers up to 157mm high.

Storage capacity

Storage capacity is fairly easy to identify and describe on the NOX HUMMER TGM.

To start, let's look at the most obvious, which is the double bay cabinet located in the PSU compartment. In it, we can install two 3.5-inch HDD hard drives, not compatible with 2.5 ”. We will use the adapters available in the bundle to fix them here.

And then we will have two 2.5-inch drive bays in the side area attached to the front. It supports installation both on one side and the other, so we can choose its placement.

So in total there will be space for four units, two of 3.5 "and another two of 2.5", easy and simple.

Very tight space for power supply

It is true that the chassis supports sources up to 160 mm long, but we must take this with tweezers. Our Corsair AX680i measures just 160mm and is modular, and we'd have no way to get it into the game if we hadn't removed the cables.

Precisely in the photo we see how tight the cables are. And another issue is being able to connect the cables once the source has been inserted, since there are only 2 cm scarce to do it and it is a surgeon's task.

What we mean by this is that we are going to have a lot of trouble getting the 160mm modular fonts in. It's possible? It is, but then installing the cables inside is very difficult. In the case of non-modular sources, it is possible that it is somewhat easier, since the cables all go out in the same place, that is, that it is more to the right because if not, it will also be impossible to insert it.

I hope I have explained myself, in a fairly clear way. For some clarification, ask in the comment box.

Cooling capacity

Leaving these details behind, let's see what cooling capacity this NOX HUMMER TGM has, because we are also going to finish quite soon.

The fan capacity will be as follows:

  • Front: 3x 120mm Top: 2x 120mm Rear: 1x 120mm

What we must learn is that it does not support 140mm fans. Anyway, it would not be disappointing either, since we have 4 120mm fans with ARGB lighting pre-installed. So it is a chassis to install and use.

And the capacity for liquid cooling will be as follows:

  • Front: 1x 240mm

We have no capacity in the upper or rear area. NOX understands that the majority of users that this box is aimed at will use, at most, a 240 mm AIO configuration for CPU and this aspect is covered.

As for the aspects that we need to take into account, all the fans will be connected to the microcontroller with 6-pin headers. In this model of chassis we will not be able to control the speed of the fans from the I / O panel, but we can control the lighting.

In principle these fans are optimized for installation in this chassis, but this does not mean that we can install our own to manage them from the motherboard, for example.

Finally, keep in mind that the recommended way of mounting an AIO is always to leave the fans inside so that they blow air out. In this chassis, we would lose the aesthetics completely if we did this, leaving the front empty and bare. So we could mount them so that they introduce air, with the radiator behind and take advantage of two of these included fans to place them on top and to expel the hot air. Not a bad idea, right?

Microcontroller and LED lighting

If you recall, the microcontroller that incorporates this NOX HUMMER TGM chassis is practically the same as that of other NOX models such as the HUMMER TGF or the HUMMER TGX also reviewed by us.

In this case it is the ZT-AJ-XCKZ3 model in its 2.0 version. This new controller version basically incorporates more animations for the lighting and a management of more addressable LED lamps.

Here we have a total of 4 fans installed on 6-pin headers, but it supports up to 8 of them. And although we can only manage its lighting from the I / O panel, the controller also allows PWM control of the RPM of the fans in other models. In fact, it has a port that we can connect to the motherboard to do this function.

But it also supports up to four extra fans with 3-pin headers and two RGB LED lighting strips also on 3-pin headers. All this will be powered by a SATA connector.

Installation a hardware mount

We understand that when you see the first image, the thing looks quite cloudy, and that is that NOX HUMMER TGM already comes standard, a huge amount of cables from here to there. We can not perform miracles, so the best we can do is install the power supply, remember, be careful with the measurements of it, and order the cables using the clips that it brings us as accessories.

Do not worry, because with the widening of the right side we will almost have no problems in fitting all the sabers, that is, if we install mechanical hard drives, things will worsen quite a bit, because we have taken advantage of that gap to put the excess cables.

For the side cables, there will be no problem, we have more than enough holes to pass them to the motherboard. Something that we have lost in this chassis is the hole to pass the EPS cables to the upper right corner of the board. So we will have to show it glued to the top so that it does not look much.

Otherwise, the assembly has not taken too long, and has been quite good in terms of cleaning the main space. Let's see the end result.

Final score

We see that the chassis with all the lighting activated is very striking and is very elegant with the front and side windows.

Final words and conclusion about NOX HUMMER TGM

We come to the end of this review of one of the three chassis that NOX has presented, which, in our opinion, is the most recommended of the three. And we consider it this way above all for its design, a very compact and light chassis, easily manageable and with glass panels on the front and side on a matte black color with very simple and clean lines.

All this is completed with a spectacular addressable lighting system integrated by four pre-installed 120mm fans and managed by an updated microcontroller that also allows enough expansion options. We have lighting management in the I / O panel, although not from the RPM of the fans directly, but with a connector that will go directly to the motherboard.

Being such a compact chassis, it will not support high-end hardware, for example E-ATX boards or large CPU heatsinks. The cooling capacity is limited to 240mm configurations and 120mm fans, and the truth is that the metal chassis is perhaps somewhat flimsy compared to other products in the Hummer family.

We also recommend our article on the best chassis of the moment

As for the installation of components, it is true that we are somewhat limited, especially with power supplies up to 160 mm and they hardly fit these, especially if they are modular, having problems with the installation of cables. Having fixed hard drive bays with rivets limits this space a lot. The solution? Remove the rivets and place screws doing DIY.

Also the part of cable management is somewhat basic, there are many unprotected gaps and we will be in trouble if we have many hard drives or cables. At this point, it is appreciated to widen the side plate to increase capacity, because it is a very narrow chassis.

Finally, I would like to point out that this NOX HUMMER TGM chassis is available, today, for a price of approximately 65 euros. Very economical if we look back and see what it really offers us. We lose details such as those discussed, yes, but it is not about competing in the high-end, but about giving users an incredible appearance at a price almost laughable. With all this, on our part it is recommended for not too demanding assemblies and small ATX sources.
