The arrival of the AMD Ryzen processors has not been free of light and shadow, the company's new CPUs based on the Zen microarchitecture have shown excellent performance but also some problems related to RAM and its performance in games. Now AMD faces another serious problem, the shortage of AM4 socket motherboards.

AM4 motherboards are in short supply

The new AM4 platform has arrived quite green with BIOSes that still need a lot of work and serious problems related to the speed of RAM, the latter would be related to the way of working of the integrated controller (IMC) in processors and modules current memory that is certified for Intel XMP but not AMD AMP. Expect manufacturers to start rolling out new AMP-certified DDR4 memories that will work seamlessly with the new AMD Ryzen processors.

Now AMD faces a new problem, the shortage of AM4 socket motherboards, which is the only one compatible with the company's new processors. This problem would be due to a higher demand than expected from the new processors or because the manufacturers have withheld the shipment of the boards until they have a BIOS in conditions for the correct operation of the platform.

This shortage is currently making it difficult to find a high-end AM4 motherboard with the X370 chipset in many of the main stores in Spain and other countries. Let us hope that the main manufacturers put the batteries beforehand to solve the current problems and that all users who wish can get hold of the new AM4 platform.
