Nvidia has published in its official blog a series of details about the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world and has boasted of its great presence, especially in the new litter that has been recently added to this list.

NVIDIA GPUs broke a record being present in 136 systems in the last TOP500

Nvidia says the new wave of supercomputers is accelerating and bases its power largely on the GPU, as the latest TOP500 list of the world's fastest systems shows.

Of the 102 new supercomputers that have joined the ranking, 42 use NVIDIA GPU accelerators, including AiMOS, the most powerful on the list, which went on sale this week. At number 24, AiMOS reaches 8 computational petaflops in the Linpack tool, which is a measure of supercomputing performance.

Installed at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, the system works with NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs, as does Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Summit, the world's fastest supercomputer. NVIDIA GPUs broke a record by being present on 136 systems in the last TOP500, including half of the top 10.

The fastest supercomputers in Europe and Japan, as well as the world's fastest industrial supercomputer, are sped up by NVIDIA GPUs.

Almost 40% of the total computing power of the TOP500 list (626 petaflops) comes from GPU accelerated systems. Just over a decade ago, no supercomputer based its power on the GPU.

In addition, they add that there are 3 supercomputers in the TOP500 that are from NVIDIA itself, including the DGX SuperPOD, which is ranked 20 in the most recent list. These systems are used around the clock for intensive computing workloads such as autonomous vehicle development.

As you can see, NVIDIA has taken a great advantage in the field of ' GPU Computing', which is revolutionizing the supercomputer segment and large-scale processing. Not for nothing, Intel also wants to get into this field, now that it has announced the 'Ponte Vecchio' GPUs. We will keep you informed.
