Nvidia gt 1030 review in Spanish (complete analysis)

We have changed the chip and instead of trying medium or high range material, we want to bring you the analysis of an input graphics card focused on multimedia. Specifically, the Nvidia GT 1030 with 2 GB of RAM with a wide variety of assemblers and cooling. Will the Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 Silent 2GB GDDR5 LP be able to run games? Is it worth the barely 82 euros it is worth?

Do not worry, reading our review will solve all your doubts?

Nvidia GT 1030 technical characteristics

Design and unboxing

On the cover of the Nvidia GT 1030 we find the classic Gigabyte eye and a phrase "Silent Low Profile 2G" that indicates that it is a passive graphics card and that it contains 2 GB of VRAM memory.

While on the back they indicate all the technical characteristics of the product in more detail, its rear connections and the use of Ultra Durable 2 components.

Once we open the product we find the following bundle:

  • Nvidia GT 1030 graphics card Quick guideCD with driversBracket to convert it to Low Profile.

The Nvidia GT 1030 graphics card uses the new Nvidia Pascal graphics architecture, specifically it is the GP108 that is manufactured in 16 nm FinFET and one of the most efficient cards having a TDP of just 35W.

The dimensions of the graphics card are very compact with 174.91 x 68.9 x 35.91 mm and a weight of just 246 grams. All this in a Single Slot Low Profile format that we can install in any cabinet on the market. Although this specific model occupies almost 1.5-2 slots… we should also not have any type of problem to install in any box on the market.

These 1.8 billion transistors are spread within the chip in a total of 6 Streaming Multiprocessors units, these in turn contain the large number of 384 CUDA cores with the latest Nvidia architecture. We also found no less than 24 texturizing units (TMUs) and 16 crawling units (ROPs).

The Streaming Multiprocessors runs frequencies on its 1252 MHz GPU in base mode that goes up to 1, 506 MHz under Turbo B oost mode to offer superior performance. Although it depends on the model, we will find better frequencies, in our case, being a passive heatsink, it comes with somewhat more contained speeds.

One of its main innovations is the incorporation of GDDR5 memory… Normally in models of previous generations they used to mount GDDR3 to save cost, but the truth… it was already quite obsolete. It is very interesting that the card has a total of 4 GB of GDDR5 memory at very relaxed frequencies of 6008 MHz, a 64-bit bus and an excellent TDP of just 35W.

The big difference between this model and the rest of the competition is that it does not have a fan. And it is that, obviously, it allows us to play games with a low quality… it is focused on the multimedia center. What better than minimizing noise without the classic tiny, noisy fans?

Gigabyte has done very well with a maximum heatsink height of 3.5cm, nearly 17cm in surface area and considerable thickness. What if I want to install a fan? Look at another model, because the PCB does not have a head to install a fan?

In the back we did not find any backplate. We also do not need it for the range of graphics card in question, although it must be emphasized that Gigabyte has used Ultra Durable 2 components and a power phase to power the Nvidia GT 1030.

Having a very low TDP (remember, 35W) and a very low consumption, it does not need power from the power supply and collects all the power from the PCI Express slot . All a detail for equipment pre-assembled by manufacturers, equipment that consumption is super contained and go to the maximum "low cost".

Finally we show you the rear connections made up of:

  • 1 DVI-D connection. 1 HDMI 2.0b connection.

All tests have been passed with the filters to a minimum because the graphics card is low-end and we wanted to have the best experience. The resolution used is the most common among users: Full HD at 1920 x 1080 pixels along with the Windows 10 Pro 64 bit operating system and the latest drivers available from the Nvidia website.

What are we looking for in the tests?

First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:

FRAMES BY SECONDS

Frames for Seconds. (FPS)

Gameplay

Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 - 40 FPS Playable
40 - 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent

Game Testing

We have passed the following games, removing filters in their configuration and with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at all times.

  • Battlefield 1 - 1920 x 1080 - BassDoom Bass Vulkan. 1920 x 1080p - MediumOverwatch 1920 x 1080p - MediumRocket League - Medium

Temperature and consumption

The temperatures of the Nvidia GT 1030 have been really good, with considerably less noise and temperatures than the reference model. At rest we have obtained 23ºC and at maximum performance it reaches 67ºC, although if the game is very demanding we can see it even at 78ºC.

Another of the great advantages of this range is the reduced consumption that we have in the equipment. Until very recently it was unthinkable to have high-end graphics and get 49 W at idle and 88 W playing with an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor at stock speeds.

Final words and conclusion about the Nvidia GT 1030

The Nvidia GT1030 is positioned as a great option for those users who are looking to get more out of their old PC or need to play 4K content at 60 FPS without any problem on their PC or Media Center.

Although in our tests we have based on 4 of the most used games this year. As you can see in the graphics, the most demanding games (BF1 and Doom) are playable with both low and medium details and eliminating filters, making it a very capable graphics card with less demanding games such as Rocket League, LoL or the same Overwatch. A cheap solution and that competes from you to you against the AMD Radeon RX 550 that we already analyzed a few months.

We recommend reading our guide to the best graphics cards on the market.

Another of its points in favor of the Nvidia GT 1030 is that there are versions that do not incorporate a fan and are 100% passive. This implies that it does not generate any noise and that its temperatures are somewhat higher, but alleviating the noise of small fans. Currently there is a wide variety of models on the market, where their prices range from 79 euros to 84 euros.

Another fact to keep in mind that it only asks for a 300W power supply for the entire system and does not need extra power. A pass the consumption that has offered us in our test bench!

So… is it worth your purchase? If you are looking for something light and improving the integrated card of your processor is a great option. But if you raise your budget a little you have the Nvidia GTX 1050 4GB or the AMD RX 460/560 4GB. What did you think of the performance of the Nvidia GT 1030?
