Just a few days ago the new Nvidia card appeared, so we have decided to make a comparison between Nvidia GTX 1650 vs AMD RX 570. They are two graphics cards that are clearly at the low end of the current gaming scene, with similar performance, so it will be very interesting for users to know for sure which one offers us the best performance.

To do this, we have used our current test bench with the MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming X cards and the MSI RX 570 Armor. Without further ado, let's start this comparison!

Technical sheet and characteristics

You can already see that it makes a lot of sense to make the comparison of these two GPUs, AMD also deserves some prominence, especially in this range with its previous RX. Even today they are very valid cards and also at very good prices. In any case, it is normal that this new GTX 1650 is somewhat more expensive, in addition to the Gaming X specification being superior to the Armor range, will the price do performance justice?

Sticking to the specifications, we see how there is a tie in the rendering units on both cards, while in the texturing ones the RX 570 wins long. Let's also remember that neither card has processors capable of performing Ray Tracing in time. real, something present only in the RTX range. But Nvidia has released new drivers that allow this processing to be done directly with the CUDA cores, of course to the detriment of the overall performance of the GPU. In this GTX 1650 it would not make much sense to do so, but the possibility is latent, while in the RX 570 it does not exist.

A good thing about the GTX is also its low power consumption, just half that of the RX 570. AMD cards tend to consume considerably more, especially this RX family with manufacturing processes at 14nm, compared to 12nm for the architecture. Turing. Despite this, RX 570 offers us more bandwidth and bus, although less processing frequency. They are two very different GPUs so the specifications can only be taken between clamps in a comparison. Let's move on to see the results.

Synthetic performance tests Nvidia GTX 1650 vs AMD RX 570

We have already seen the specifications, so now it is time to see how these two cards will unfold in the synthetic benchmark tests, and later in the games. To do this, we have used the following test bench:

Processor:

Intel Core i9-9900k

Base plate: Asus Maximus XI Hero

Memory:

Corsair Vengeance PRO RGB 16 GB @ 3600 MHz

Heatsink

Corsair H100i V2

HDD

Kingston UV400

Graphic card

GTX 1650y AMD RX 570

Power supply

Corsair RM1000X

And the tests that we have carried out are:

  • 3DMark Time Spy3DMark Fire Strike3DMark Tire Strike UltraVRMark Orange Room

We see that in all cases the RX 570 scores are significantly higher, but how much higher? Starting with the test in Fire Strike, we have a 25% higher performance, much more than for example a 1660 compared to a 1660 Ti. Next with the Fire Strike Ultra version, which is developed in 4K resolution, we will have no less than 36% power compared to the GTX 1650, which is certainly a lot.

Continuing with the Time Spy and VRMark test, we will have 9% and 8.6%, which are undoubtedly more adjusted results, and we will explain why. These tests measure the performance of GPUs in DirectX 12 in the case of Time Spy and DirectX 12 oriented to VR in the case of VRMark. So we see that, despite being clearly a less powerful GPU, the GTX 1650 is very close to its rival, and this is due to the shader and cache improvements that Nvidia has introduced in its new Turing GPUs.

Game performance test

We continue with the performance tests in games, in this case we have not chosen to test the games in 4K resolution, since they are graphics cards that are not oriented to play in these resolutions, basically because we will obtain FPS rates below 30, which is not enough to generate a positive experience.

The games we have tested are the same on both cards, with the same test bench, the latest version of the available drivers and the same graphic configuration in each title.

In the 1080p resolution data table the AMD RX 570 is superior in all cases to the GTX 1650. With both cards, the gaming experience will be satisfactory, exceeding 50 FPS in almost all cases. Remember that we place the graphics in high or very high quality, so decreasing these the performance will increase. We see very close results for example in DOOM tested with Open GL 4.5, also very close in Far Cry 5 and Final Fantasy XV under DirectX 12. Certainly the distance between the cards is reduced compared to the synthetic tests so it is something positive for the GTX 1650.

In 2K resolution the thing is complicated for the Nvidia product, we see much more bulky distances especially in Doom and Far Cry 5 and yet closer in the Deux and Tomb Rider titles which is just the opposite of what was seen in 1080p. This may be due in part to what drivers for this GTX 1650 are still a bit green, since during our review of the cards (and we tested three) did not give the feeling that they could still give more. The future only Nvidia knows, for now this is what we can tell you.

Consumption and temperatures

We leave behind the bathroom that the AMD GPU has given to the Nvidia, and we go to see the temperature and consumption of the GPUs. On paper we already saw that the Polaris architecture wastes more and has more heating than the Turing, so we should expect worse results here from the RX 570.

As always, the consumption results are measured on the complete equipment, which already tell us that it is exactly the same test bench.

Look, both GPUs (and equipment) consume the same at idle, about 68 W, which is fine. But when we put both cane, Polaris makes its own by increasing consumption to 224 W, while the Turing GPU remains 48 W below it, at least efficient, yes it is.

And with the temperature exactly the same thing happens, nobody is surprised that the new Radeon Vega are barbecues, but instead the RX do control the temperature better. Specifically, this RX 570 has a Twin Frozr heatsink that performs really well, reaches up to 70 degrees in load and no less than 30 at rest, sensational for a GPU. Meanwhile, the GTX oscillates at 42 degrees and about 61 of maximum, although it is also true that the heatsink of the Gaming X is a little better than the Armor range when it is in charge.

Overclocking experience

We have also taken our time to overclock these two cards and thus see how far they can go, always keeping stability clear. For this, we have selected the Deux Ex Mankind Divided as guinea pig to see the FPS improvements.

Deus EX MSI RX 570 Armor Stock MSI RX 570 Armor Overclock
1920 x 1080 (Full HD) 63 FPS 66 FPS
2560 x 1440 (WQHD) 40 FPS 42 FPS
Deus EX MSI GTX 1650 Gaming X Stock MSI GTX 1650 Gaming X Overclock
1920 x 1080 (Full HD) 49 FPS 54 FPS
2560 x 1440 (WQHD) 32 FPS 35 FPS

In the case of the MSI RX Armor, we have managed to establish a GPU frequency of 1450 MHz and 2100 MHz for GDDR5 memory. You see the results, 3 improvement FPS for 1080p and 2 for 2K. Very little improvement.

We pass with the MSI GTX 1650 Gaming X that we have managed to place at 1615 MHz of GPU clock frequency and 2341 MHz. And the results show an improvement of 5 FPS in 1080p and 2 FPS in 2K, which is something more, and shows the excellent overclocking capacity that Nvidias have. Of course a better temperature and a better adjusted TDP of this, greatly favors the obtaining of good results.

So, in this section, Nvidia's low-end GPU wins. But the performance of the RX 570 is far superior. At the price level, it is clear which is the candidate for our mid-range configuration, right?

Final conclusion on Nvidia GTX 1650 vs AMD RX 570

If we can get something clear from this comparison, it is that the new Nvidia GTX 1650 does not reflect the performance that, at least we expected. In the reviews we have determined that it beats a GTX 1050 Ti of the previous generation and we go between 10 and 20 euros more, which does not help either.

Focusing more on the comparison, the RX 570 is, by far, the best option of the two. It's nice that the GTX is new in architecture, consuming less and warming less, but what's really important is gaming performance, and here the RX 570 is better. And better long both in Full HD and 2K resolutions, and let's not kid ourselves, few users are going to choose to overclock a low-end GPU like this.

We recommend reading the best graphics cards on the market

And then we have the price issue, a 4 GB MSI RX 570 Armor version like this, we can currently find it for a price of 147 euros on Amazon, and if we go up to 8 GB, we will have it for 170 euros, which even so It is considerably less than the 195 euros that the MSI GeForce GTX 1650 costs.

In short, it is not a graphics card that today is worth much, because AMD has good assets in this range, and the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti are a better option in length. While it is true that the drivers are quite green, we do not expect that a simple optimization of them will solve the gap between both cards or anything like that, so, for our part, the winner of the comparison Nvidia GTX 1650 vs AMD RX 570, it is without a doubt the GPU of AMD RX 570.
