As expected, Nvidia has finally announced the launch of its new GeForce GTX 1000 graphics cards for laptops with characteristics virtually identical to those of desktop models.
GeForce GTX 1000 for notebooks: technical characteristics
As we warned you, Pascal's great energy efficiency allows portable computers to enjoy graphic processing power very close to high-performance desktops, the existing gap is smaller every time.
First of all we have the GeForce GTX 1080 with a full GP104 silicon to add 2, 560 CUDA Cores, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs at a maximum frequency of 1, 733 MHz in its graphic core. Its specifications are completed with 8 GB of GDDR5X memory at a speed of 10 Gbps. Therefore the only difference from the desktop version is a lower 50 MHz core frequency.
We go down one step and we find the GeForce GTX 1070 that includes a greater number of cores than the desktop version although at a lower frequency, thus we find 2, 048 CUDA Cores, 128 TMUs and 64 ROPs at a maximum frequency of 1, 645 MHz and next to 8 GB of GDDR5 memory. With these numbers we will have a performance very similar to the GeForce GTX 1070 desktop.
Finally we have the GeForce GTX 1060 in a version almost identical to the desktop model with 1280 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs at a maximum frequency of 1, 670 MHz and accompanied by 6 GB of GDDR5 memory for great performance.
Pascal's good work allows laptop GPUs to achieve higher levels of overclocking, so the user will benefit from better performance without having to spend a single extra penny, something that is always appreciated. Nvidia has provided its new cards with the best components to improve their power in order to achieve higher frequencies and better energy efficiency.
Among the main teams that will mount the new GeForce GTX 1000 we have:
ASUS G752VS (GTX 1070)
MSI GT83VR
MSI GT73VR
MSI GT72VR
MSI GT62VR
