During AMD's conference at E3 2019, the 'Red Team' announced more than just the next line of CPUs and GPUs. They also revealed some software technologies like Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS).

Radeon Sharpeining and Anti-Lag are some new technologies announced by AMD

Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) restores the clarity of game images that have been smoothed out by other post-process effects. RIS combines with GPU scaling to provide sharp images at smooth frame rates on very high resolution displays and works on DirectX 9, 12 and Vulkan titles.

But this is not all, they also showed other solutions such as FidelityFX, which is an open source developer toolkit available in the coming weeks on the GPUOpen that makes it easy for developers to create high-quality post-processing effects that make games look pretty and at the same time offer a balance between visual fidelity and performance.

FidelityFX features the Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) feature that highlights detail in low-contrast areas and minimizes artifacts caused by typical image-focusing routines.

The third, and important, is Radeon Anti-Lag. This technology reduces screen input response times by up to 31 percent, offering an experience similar to when playing at high framerates.

To all this, Nvidia has wanted to slightly minimize the impact of these technologies announced by the AMD team, ensuring that a large part of them are already present on its platform.

Nvidia's statements

Moving on to the Anti-Lag topic, Nvidia's Justin Walker said this:

"I think it's something akin to what we call maximum pre-rendered frames, which is actually something we've had in our Nvidia control panel for a long time." This option in the Nvidia Control Panel, lowering it to '' 1 '', improves the Input-Lag.

It should be noted that Walker was not entirely sure that AMD's Radeon Anti-Lag technology was based on this concept. We will have to wait until Anti-Lag is available to find out if this is really the case or if it works in a different and more efficient way.
