Microsoft using the insider program to present a new anti-malware technology, anti-exploit in the Windows 10 browser (Microsoft Edge), for Windows Enterprise insider users. The latest Windows 10 build 16188 released Thursday includes Windows Defender Application Guard.

What is Windows Defender Application Guard?

It is a feature for Microsoft Edge that using virtualization to isolate the content of an Edge browser tab from the rest of the operating system.

How to run Windows Defender Application Guard?

In order to choose whether or not to use Application Guard we must change the configuration from the configuration dialog and then open a new tab within Edge by selecting "New Application Guard Window" from the browser menu.

Application Guard is available in the United States within build 16188 for Windows 10 Enterprise and requires a PC that supports Hyper-V (Microsoft Virtualization Technology).

Thanks to the Microsoft Edge sandbox, malicious websites cannot access the user's browser credentials and will not be able to connect with other systems that are on the network. When the user has finished browsing the isolated tab is discarded and any malware that managed to enter the sandbox is also deleted.

Companies will be able to whitelist websites and all websites that are not whitelisted automatically the browser opens the Application Guard.

With all this Microsoft wants to reduce attacks on companies and protect users while browsing. At the moment it is unknown if Application Guard will reach other versions of Windows. What we can deduce is that when using Hyper-V technology it will surely reach Windows 10 Pro, but the Home version will most likely not, because it does not have Hyper-V
